A nursing home in Mt. Airy, Maryland, has been hit with an outbreak of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, with 66 residents testing positive.
The death toll in Maryland doubled on Saturday from five to 10, and the overall case load in D.C., Maryland and Virginia has passed 2,000 — only three days after it passed 1,000.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) — The Maryland Department of Health announced Sunday five additional deaths as a result of the coronavirus, bringing the total number of COVID-19 deaths to 15 in the state.

Maryland governor issues stay-home directive amid coronavirus pandemic

ANNAPOLIS, Md. —
Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan issued a stay-home directive statewide amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The executive order takes effect at 8 p.m. Monday. Anyone who violates the order will be guilty of a misdemeanor that carries a possible sentence of up to one year in prison and/or a fine of up to $5,000.
"This virus is spreading rapidly and exponentially," Hogan said. "We are no longer asking or suggesting that Marylanders stay home, we are directing them to do so."
Hogan added: "No Marylander shall be leaving their home unless it is for an essential job or an essential reason such as obtaining food or medicine, seeking urgent medical attention or for other necessary purposes."...

Three more Marylanders have died from the new coronavirus, bringing the total number of deaths in the state to 18, according to the state health department.
The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Maryland has risen to 1,660 as of Tuesday, the day after Gov. Larry Hogan issued an executive order requiring residents to stay at home except for essential activities, state officials said. Tuesday’s total represented an additional 247 cases in the state — an 18% increase over the previous day.

Maryland’s latest morning update on the state’s rising count of confirmed coronavirus cases came with an announcement of nine additional deaths Wednesday, bringing the total to 31.
