Maricopa County child dies of the flu

A child has died of the flu, and the unusual occurrence at this time of year has prompted public-health officials to suggest earlier vaccinations for residents.

The child?s death, confirmed Tuesday, was one of three flu cases reported in Maricopa County this summer. The other two cases were in adults.

Details about the child?s identity, location and exact date of death were withheld for privacy reasons. However, the child lived in Maricopa County, officials said.

From AZ Dept of Health Services report (weeks 31-32):

"Of the three cases reported during the summer surveillance period, one is influenza A and two are influenza B." (2 were in Maricopa County and 1 was in Mohave County) The next report comes out today, which might include this child's death.
