Province offers vaccines as Hepatitis A outbreak continues in Peguis First Nation

Manitoba Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care is offering free hepatitis A vaccines to members of Peguis First Nation, as well as visitors and close contacts aged six months and older, amid an ongoing outbreak.
The province says this expanded eligibility builds on similar measures already in place for Garden Hill, St. Theresa Point, Wasagamack, and Red Sucker Lake. The vaccine is now available to Peguis First Nation community members, anyone travelling to or working in the area, and those with household visitors from the community.
The hepatitis A vaccine is highly effective at preventing infection, even when given after exposure. Vaccines are available through primary care providers, local public health offices, nursing stations, and health centres.
As of January 18, 308 cases of hepatitis A have been linked to the outbreak across Manitoba, with most infections spreading through person-to-person contact. Health officials say the overall risk of exposure remains low...
