9 deaths, 45 new COVID-19 hospitalizations in Manitoba on Thursday
Number of people with COVID-19 in Manitoba ICUs up 1 to 47
CBC News · Posted: Jan 13, 2022 12:29 PM CT | Last Updated: 1 hour ago

Another nine people have died due to COVID-19 in Manitoba, with an additional 45 cases in hospital Thursday, the provincial coronavirus data dashboard says.

There are now 499 people in Manitoba hospitals who have COVID-19.

One more patient was admitted to an intensive care unit, bringing the total number of COVID-19 patients in ICU to 47.

There are a total of 102 ICU patients in Manitoba on Thursday, including non-COVID patients, which is 30 more than the pre-pandemic baseline ICU capacity of 72.

Manitoba added 1,228 new cases to its total, and Manitoba's test positivity dropped to 44.9 per cent, from 47.2 per cent on Wednesday. However, health officials have said the province's daily case numbers significantly undercount the true number of cases, because many positive cases are not reported.

The province only counts positive PCR tests but has severely restricted access to them, with most symptomatic people only doing self-administered rapid antigen tests. The province does not track RAT results...

Hospitalizations of Manitobans who have contracted COVID-19 have surpassed 500 people.
An 18-person increase Friday brings the province to 517 COVID patients in hospital, and five more people have died.

Manitoba ICUs currently stand at 45 people with the virus, down two from Thursday, public health officials said.

The province also reported 1,215 new cases, however, that number is not accurate, due to changes in how the province is collecting COVID-19 case data. Most Manitobans who request a test will receive a rapid antigen test, and the results are not recorded. Those who test positive and meet specific criteria are then given a PCR test, which is recorded...

20 deaths, 84 more COVID-19 hospitalizations in Manitoba over weekend

The number of COVID-19 patients in intensive care units increased by two to 47, the same as when the numbers were last updated on Friday. The total number of patients in ICUs reached 107, the highest since the third wave.

There are currently 601 COVID-19 patients in hospitals in Manitoba.

Manitoba's five-day test-positivity rate dropped to 34.5 per cent from 42.6 per cent on Friday.

Two of the latest deaths — a man in his 50s and a woman in her 40s from the Winnipeg Health region — were reported on Saturday.

Another 12 deaths were reported on Sunday. Three of those deaths — a man in his 100s, a man in his 90s and a man in his 70s — were in the Prairie Mountain Health region.

The rest of the deaths on Saturday were in the Winnipeg region, including a man in his 50s, a man and a woman in their 60s, a man in his 80s, four women and a man in their 90s.

Three of the women in their 90s were connected with outbreaks at facilities including at West Park Manor and Actionmarguerite St. Vital in Winnipeg, and Prairie View Lodge in Crystal City.

There were six deaths reported on Monday. Five of those were in Winnipeg, including a man and a woman in their 90s, a man in his 80s connected with an outbreak at the Actionmargeurite St. Coniface personal care home, a woman in her 70s connected with an outbreak at the Oakview Place care home, and a man in his 70s.

The other death reported Monday, a woman in her 60s, was in the Southern Health region.

This brings Manitoba's COVID-19 death toll to 1,463.

3 more deaths, 19 more COVID-19 hospitalizations in Manitoba Tuesday
CBC News · Posted: Jan 18, 2022 12:32 PM CT | Last Updated: 34 minutes ago

The number of people in Manitoba hospitals due to COVID-19 rose by 19, to a total of 620, and three more people have died from the illness, according to Tuesday's update on the province's online dashboard.

The number of patients in intensive care units with COVID-19 rose by one on Tuesday to 48.

The total number of all patients in ICUs — both those with COVID-19 and those being treated for non-COVID-related issues — dropped to 102, down by five from Monday's number.

Last week, Premier Heather Stefanson said the province's maximum ICU capacity was 116, while the pre-pandemic baseline capacity was 72.

Another 847 cases were confirmed by PCR tests on Tuesday, bringing the province's official total since the start of the pandemic to 111,432, with 40,805 active cases reported.

However, the numbers for new and active cases are considered significant undercounts, as most cases are currently going unreported because PCR testing is limited. Cases confirmed at home by rapid tests are not included in the province's official totals.

Manitoba's five-day test-positivity rate dipped slightly to 34.2 per cent, from 34.5 per cent on Monday...

CBC News · Posted: Jan 20, 2022 12:32 PM CT | Last Updated: 28 minutes ago

There are 34 more hospitalizations of people with COVID-19 in Manitoba on Thursday, the province's online coronavirus dashboard says.

The update brings the total number of people hospitalized with the illness to 665. There are still 50 COVID-19 patients in intensive care, the dashboard says.

Those patients make up just under half of the 103 patients in the province's ICUs, a spokesperson for Shared Health, which oversees health-care delivery in Manitoba, said in an email.

The total number of intensive care patients in the province is up three since Wednesday.

Before the pandemic, Manitoba's baseline capacity for its critical care beds was 72.

Seven more people with the illness have died in Manitoba. Six of them were from the Winnipeg health region while one was from the Southern Health region, the dashboard says...

The provincial COVID-19 dashboard shows hospitalizations dropped by one on Friday, for a total of 664 people in hospital with COVID-19, including 50 people in the ICU. Of those hospitalized, 586 people have active cases, including 44 people in the intensive care unit with active cases.

23 COVID-19 deaths, 52 more hospitalizations in Manitoba over the weekend
3 pediatric COVID-19 patients in ICU, health officials say
CBC News · Posted: Jan 24, 2022 12:31 PM CT | Last Updated: 2 hours ago

Manitoba recorded another 23 COVID-19 deaths and hospitals admitted 52 more patients over the weekend.

The number of COVID patients in Manitoba hospitals resumed its record-breaking pace, which has been going for more than four weeks, with the exception of last Friday when it dropped by one.

On Monday, 716 COVID patients occupied hospital beds in Manitoba.

Despite the increase in hospitalizations, the load of COVID patients in intensive care units got slightly lighter, dropping by one to 49. According to provincial health officials, there are now three pediatric COVID-19 patients in ICU.

There are now 102 patients — both COVID- and non-COVID-related — in Manitoba ICUs. The critical care programs' pre-pandemic baseline capacity was 72.

The daily case count dropped to its lowest point in more than a month, with 536 new cases announced Monday. Over the last three days, the province added 2,112 new cases to its total.

Health officials have said the daily case counts significantly under-represent the true number of new infections because many either have no symptoms or are confirmed by rapid tests, which are not counted in the province's official tally.

Manitoba's five-day test-positivity rate increased to 33.3 per cent, from 32.4 per cent on Friday...

Another six people have died due to COVID-19 in Manitoba and there are 13 more people with the coronavirus in hospital as of Tuesday, the provincial government reported through its online dashboard.

The number of hospitalizations set yet another record, with 729 confirmed cases in Manitoba hospitals.

Cases in intensive care units remain the same as Monday, with 49 total cases.

The deaths bring the toll to 1,521 in Manitoba.

Manitoba's test-positivity rate dropped slightly to 32.9 per cent, down from 33.3 per cent on Monday.

The province recorded another 637 cases of COVID-19 confirmed by PCR tests, although this number significantly undercounts the true number of cases, because access to testing is restricted.

Of those confirmed cases, 361 are in the Winnipeg health region, 93 in Prairie Mountain Health, 71 in the Northern Health Region, 58 in Southern Health and 54 in the Interlake-Eastern health region.

Labs completed 2,025 PCR tests on Monday...
