Tuaran district declared as bird flu outbreak area

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government has ordered the Veterinary Services Department through Tuaran district officer to declare Tuaran district as bird flu outbreak area.

This is following a sample tested on July 31 which found a chicken farm recording positive results to the disease also known as Avian Influenza.

Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Junz Wong said to contain the virus from spreading to other districts, the department would cull all poultry within a kilometre radius from the farm involved...

KOTA KINABALU, Aug 5 ? The Sabah Department of Veterinary Services (JPV) needs one week to carry out the elimination and disposal of poultry infected with bird flu (avian influenza) in two farms in Kampung Kaulauan, Tuaran.

Sabah JPV Health Division deputy director Dr Peter Lee Ah Kong said the elimination and disposal works had started yesterday involving 1,000 chickens.

?JPV needs about a week to eliminate some 28,000 chickens that are found to have been infected with the virus at the farms...

[TD]The report of high mortality of layer chickens was received by Sabah Department of Veterinary Services on 27 July 2018. Investigation and sampling were carried out on the same day. Movement of animals and animal products was banned on the same day. Upon confirmation of the laboratory of the samples positive for HPAI (H5N1), stamping out of the flock was carried out and the carcasses were officially disposed of. This is the first occurrence of HPAI in Sabah state. Sabah is a state of Malaysia located at East Malaysia, on the island of Borneo. Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia are separated by the South China Sea.[/TD]

2nd bird flu case detected in Tuaran village

SABAH records its second bird flu case, this time in Kampung Loputong which is within 5km from where the first case was detected in Kampung Kauluan in Tuaran.

This was confirmed by the Sabah Veterinary Department based on rapid preliminary test that showed positive of the avian influenza virus in the village...
