Malaria outbreak at Grik Orang Asli settlement

PUTRAJAYA, Nov 22 ? Health authorities have implemented counter-measures to reduce the spread of malaria following an outbreak at the Pos Kemar Orang Asli settlement in Grik, Perak, last week.

Immediate measures taken included supplying inseticide treated bednets, fogging and larvae dicing (eradicating breeding hotspots) by personnel from the Health Ministry and Perak medical officers.

The outbreak was first detected during an active case detection exercise by health officers from the Hulu Perak district office on November 16, in Grik, about 140km from Ipoh.

?Three individuals from Pos Kemar were tested positive for malaria carrying the Plasmodium vivax (P. vivax) strain,? Health director general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah disclosed yesterday...

Malaria cases in Gerik on the rise, now at 129

IPOH: The number of malaria cases around the Pos Kemar Orang Asli settlement in Gerik, have gone up to 129, with three more people tested positive for the mosquito-borne disease on Tuesday.
State Health, Public Transport, Non Islamic Affairs, National Integration and New Villages committee chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon said a total of 68 men and 61 women have contracted the disease.
Mah said of the total, 16 patients have been admitted to Gerik Hospital...
