Selangor has most dengue cases

PENANG: Dengue is on the rise in most states in the country and Selangor tops the list.
Health Ministry Disease Control director Datuk Dr Hasan Abdul Rahman said there has been an increase of 85% of such cases reported between April 27 and May 3.
There were 865 cases reported over this period.
The ministry had anticipated an average of 467 reported cases during this period but the figure had jumped, he said in a press statement on Wednesday.
Selangor saw 380 cases or an increase of 139% in the number of cases reported over the seven-day period.
Next on the list was Perak with 93 cases and Johor with 89.
Although there were 32 cases reported in Terengganu, the state recorded a sharp increase of 433% compared with the number of cases expected by them.
Perlis and Putrajaya recorded the lowest number of cases with four and one respectively while Labuan has no dengue cases.
Kuala Lumpur saw a decrease of 7% or only 80 cases reported over the same period.
The Ministry had anticipated 86 cases in Kuala Lumpur.
Only Malacca, Pahang and Kedah apart from Kuala Lumpur reported fewer cases while Kelantan, Negri Sembilan, Sarawak, Penang and Sabah saw increases of between 6% and 50%.
Dr Hasan said the observation by their district health offices nationwide revealed there are more Aedes breeding grounds found in homes and shops, resulting in the increase in dengue cases.
?The public need to change their attitude and cooperation to curb the dengue cases.?
He said one way is to organise gotong-royong projects to destroy the mosquito breeding grounds in their neighbourhoods.
