Three people have been confirmed to have the Wuhan coronavirus here, Malaysian Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad said today (Saturday), marking the first cases of the potentially deadly disease in Malaysia.

The three Chinese citizens, who entered Malaysia via Johor Baru, are the wife and grandchildren of a 66-year-old man from Wuhan, who is currently being treated in Singapore for the same virus.

The three patients have since been transferred to Sungai Buloh Hospital in Selangor, said Datuk Seri Dzulkefly.

The patients were said to have boarded a plane from Guangzhou to Singapore on Jan 20.

The 66-year-old man and his son tested positive for the virus and were admitted to hospital in Singapore on January 22...

PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has confirmed the fourth case in Malaysia of the coronavirus that has killed 41 people and infected nearly 1,300 in China.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah says the fourth case, involving a 40-year old man from Wuhan, the epicentre of the outbreak, was not linked to the three cases confirmed earlier this morning.

The victim, he said, arrived in Johor Bahru on Jan 22 from Singapore by bus, together with 17 others from China, including his wife and child.

“He is currently in stable condition, although he still has a fever and is coughing,” Noor said in a statement.

He said the Johor Health Department managed to locate the 17 others and have screened them for the virus.

“They are not suffering from fever and do not show any symptoms,” he said, adding that the 17 had been quarantined until their test results are known...

Suspected Wuhan pneumonia case found in Sarawak

It is reported that the Chinese woman had been employed in a Chinese company in Bintulukidu for about two years. She is now 25 years old and comes from Hubei, China.

The woman traveled to Wuhan for business on January 11 and transferred from Sabah, Kota Kinabalu, Wuhan, China on the 16th, before entering Bintulu. After arriving in Bintulu, she went to work as usual.

On the 26th, the woman began to have symptoms of fever. In addition to the outbreak of the Wuhan pneumonia incident, and remembering that she had been working in Wuhan, the woman went directly to Columbia Hospital. The Columbia Hospital suspected the woman was infected with Wuhan pneumonia and transferred the woman to Bintulu Hospital.

Four arrested for spreading fake news on coronavirus

PETALING JAYA: A tutor, two pharmacy assistants and a university student were arrested for spreading fake news about the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV).

The four were arrested in separate operations by the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission in Melaka, Kedah and Pahang between 11am and 5pm on Wednesday (Jan 29).

In a statement, MCMC said a 49-year-old part-time tutor was arrested around noon after allegedly uploading fake news about the virus on Facebook on Jan 25.

In Melaka, two pharmacy assistants aged 25 and 30 were picked up in Peringgit and Merlimau around 4pm to help with investigations into the spread of fake news about the virus on a Fcaebook page on Jan 26.

A 24-year-old student at a public university in Kuantan was also arrested around 4.15pm for the same offence after allegedly uploading fake news about the virus on Twitter on Jan 27.

Authorities seized four mobile phones, five SIM cards and two memory cards from the suspects.

The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998...

Sixth person arrested for spreading fake news on Wuhan virus

PETALING JAYA: A 28-year-old bank clerk was arrested in Kuantan this afternoon to assist in investigations into a Facebook posting which spread fake news about the Wuhan virus outbreak.

This brings to six the number of people arrested for this offence over three days.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said the suspect’s mobile phone and SIM card were confiscated on suspicion of being used to upload the post on Monday.

She is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which carries a maximum fine of RM50,000 or a jail term of not more than one year, or both, on conviction...

KUALA LUMPUR: A 41-year-old man is the first Malaysian to be tested positive for the novel coronavirus 2019 (2019-nCoV).

He is one of two new positive cases, bringing to 10 the number of coronavirus cases in Malaysia so far.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the other case involved a 63-year-old man from China who arrived at the KL International Airport on Jan 18.

“As for the Malaysian, he was in Singapore from Jan 16 to 23 to attend a conference which was also attended by several international delegations including from China.

“He returned to Malaysia on Jan 23 and, on Jan 29, sought treatment at a private health facility in Selangor for fever and cough, Thereafter, he was referred to the Sungai Buloh Hospital on Feb 2, and was admitted to an isolation ward. He was confirmed positive for 2019-nCoV Monday,” he said.

He said the Malaysian was in stable condition and that the Health Ministry was working closely with the Singaporean authorities on contact tracing...

The sister of a 41-year-old Malaysian man who attended a meeting in Singapore last month has tested positive for the new coronavirus, the first known person-to-person transmission in the country, authorities in Malaysia said on Thursday said.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has confirmed one more case of the novel coronavirus, a Chinese tourist from Wuhan who entered the country from Singapore, Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad said in a press conference on Friday (Feb 7).


The woman, 59, arrived in Singapore on Jan 17 and travelled to Johor Bahru on Jan 21. She was travelling with her husband, son and daughter-in-law, Dr Dzulkefly said.


He added that the patient spent most of the time in her accommodation and developed a fever on Jan 26.

“She did not seek treatment from any health facility and just took fever medicine bought by her son from a pharmacy nearby,” he added.

PUTRAJAYA: A woman from Wuhan, China has been confirmed as the 16th positive case of the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) infection in the country, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (pix) today.

She said the 67-year-old tourist was the mother of a friend of another confirmed case who was detected on Feb 6.

“She was found positive for the virus on Feb 7 and is currently being treated in the isolation ward at Kuala Lumpur Hospital and was reported to be in a stable condition,” she said at a daily news conference on the latest development of the coronavirus here.

Patient 'Case 9' results in second local coronavirus transmission

CORONAVIRUS | A Malaysian man who was infected with the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) after attending a business meeting at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Singapore has contributed to a second local human-to-human transmission.

The 41-year-old Malaysian man, referred to as "Case 9", had passed on the virus to his 65-year-old mother-in-law, making it the 17th case and the second local human-to-human transmission.

Previously, he had infected his 40-year-old sister, who was detected by health authorities on Feb 6 and became "Case 13". It was also the first local human-to-human transmission.

All other instances have been imported cases, meaning patients were likely to have contracted the virus abroad before entering or returning to Malaysia...

PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry has taken samples from 22 individuals who had been in close contact with a Malaysian who is the 18th novel coronavirus positive case.

Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said three of them were the man’s mother, younger sibling and a cousin, while 19 others were medical staff who had tended to him.

“The 22 individuals have been identified as people who were in close proximity with the patient.
