Dengue cases climb 34.8pc; Sabah records rise

​PUTRAJAYA: The number of dengue cases recorded nationwide this year rose 34.8 per cent to 42,848 as of Thursday, compared with 31,790 cases recorded during the same period last year.

In a statement Friday, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said dengue-related deaths increased by 78.9 per cent to 34, up from 19 during the corresponding period in 2025.

Epidemiological analysis showed that nearly two-thirds, or 63.5 per cent, of all dengue cases in Malaysia were reported in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

Selangor recorded 19,313 cases, a 43.2pc increase from the same period last year, while Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya reported 7,909 cases, up 83.8pc.

Higher case numbers were also recorded in Johor, Sabah, Negeri Sembilan, Perak, Sarawak, Perlis, Terengganu and the Federal Territory of Labuan.​..

Malaysia is experiencing a significant surge in dengue fever cases, with the capital, Kuala Lumpur, and the surrounding Klang Valley region identified as the primary epicenters of the outbreak.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, statistics released by the Ministry of Health on Friday indicate that 58,079 cases have been recorded since the beginning of August. This represents a 56.2 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Health officials have confirmed that at least 55 people have died due to complications from the virus.

Official data highlights that the most dramatic spikes occurred in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, where infection rates have more than doubled compared to the corresponding period in 2025. Meanwhile, in the densely populated Selangor state, cases have risen by 61 percent. The Ministry notes that the infection is concentrated in the urbanized Klang Valley, though the outbreak is spreading nationwide, with cases in the northern Perlis state surging by 207 percent and the southern Johor state by 109 percent...
