Dr Noor Hisham: Dengue cases in Malaysia drop 17.6pc last week

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 2 — The number of dengue fever cases in the 4th epidemiological week this year (Jan 22-28) dropped by 17.6 per cent to 1,910 cases from 2,319 cases the previous week, with one fatality recorded.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the cumulative number of dengue fever cases reported to date is 8,968 cases compared to 2,948 during the same period last year, adding that this was an increase of 204.2 per cent, or 6,020 cases.

“Four deaths due to dengue fever complications have been reported so far compared to no fatalities in the same period of 2022,” he said in a statement today.

Dr Noor Hisham said a total of 79 hotspot localities were reported in the epidemiological week compared to 80 in the week before, with 51 of them located in Selangor, 14 in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, 12 in Sabah and two in Penang.

As for chikungunya, Dr Noor Hisham said a total of five cases were recorded in the 4th epidemiological week, with three cases in Penang and one each in Kedah and Selangor respectively, making the cumulative number to date 52 cases.

KUALA LUMPUR: Dengue cases in the country saw a massive 223% spike in the first quarter of the year compared with the same period last year.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that as of March 25, a total of 26,222 dengue cases were recorded, compared with 8,124 cases in the corresponding period last year.

He also said the number of deaths due to dengue complications had risen by 400% to 17 from four deaths last year...

Dengue fever cases in Malaysia have risen by 158% from January to June 3, with 48,712 cases reported compared to 18,883 cases during the same period last year. The Health Director-General, Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan, revealed that 34 deaths due to dengue fever complications were recorded, a significant increase from the 12 deaths reported in 2022.

From May 28 to June 3, the number of dengue fever cases was 2,455, a decrease of 183 cases compared to the previous week. Dr Muhammad Radzi stated that three deaths due to dengue fever complications were reported during this period.

He also noted an increase in hotspot localities, with 82 detected compared to 72 in the previous week. A total of 62 localities are in Selangor, nine in Penang, five each in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, four in Sabah, and one each in Kedah and Perak.

Regarding chikungunya surveillance, one case was recorded in Selangor, bringing the cumulative number of chikungunya cases to 135. For Zika surveillance, a total of 1,163 blood samples and 57 urine samples were screened, with all results coming back negative...​

Health Ministry: Dengue cases up in week 43, no deaths reported

PUTRAJAYA, Nov 3 ― The number of dengue cases for the 43rd Epidemiological Week (ME43) of October 22-28 increased by 10 cases or 0.4 per cent to 2,272 cases, compared to 2,262 cases in the preceding week.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan, in a statement today, said no deaths due to dengue fever complications were reported in ME43.

He said the cumulative dengue cases reported so far this year totalled 98,715, an increase of 49,146 cases or 99.1 per cent over the 49,569 cases recorded in the same period last year.

“A total of 73 deaths due to dengue fever complications were reported, compared to 33 deaths in the corresponding period last year,” he added.​..

Until October 2023, the number of dengue cases surged by 100.5 per cent, totaling 96,443 cases cumulatively, a signicant increase from the 48,109 cases reported in 2022. In 2022, Malaysia documented roughly 64,078 dengue fever cases nationwide, 26,365 cases in 2021, and 90,304 cases in 2020. Regarding fatalities, a total of 73 deaths from dengue-related complications were recorded by 22 October 2023, compared to 29 deaths during the same period in 2022. In October 2023, daily cases averaged above 300.​..
