Mumps: Health Ministry steps up monitoring

SEGAMAT: The Health Ministry will further boost its monitoring and proactive steps to control the spread of mumps.
Its minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam described mumps as a common mild symptom which people need not be anxious about, as regular monitoring and checks were being conducted by the ministry.
?From the point of view of science and technology, mumps are acceptable so people need not be afraid.. the ministry is working with various agencies to monitor the disease,? he told reporters after launching the Segamat Parliamentary Constituency People?s Touch Sale programme here yesterday.
The media yesterday reported that 70 students and three teachers of Sekolah Menengah Agama Kuala Lipis, Pahang had been infected with the mumps virus since Feb 20.
Subramaniam said the ministry was still waiting for a complete report from the State Health Department to identify the cause for the spread of the disease at the school...
