State records 2,040 cases of HMFD, 81 admissions

KUCHING: The total number of hand, foot and mouth diseases (HFMD) cases reported as of May12 this year is 2,040 cases, of which 81 cases were admitted to hospitals. However, no death is reported so far.

The state Health Department, in a press statement yesterday revealed that in the Epidemic Week (EW)19/2018 from May 6-12, the number of HFMD cases reported in Sarawak was 208 cases, about the same number of cases in the previous week (219 cases).

An upward trend was seen since EW 16/2018 (187 cases) but below the epidemic threshold (Epidemic level) of (365 cases).

The statement added that as of EW 19/2018, Kuching Division has the highest reported HFMD cases compared to other areas with 629 cases (30.83 per cent), followed by Miri ? 571 cases (27.99 per cent), Sibu 200 cases (9.80 per cent ), Mukah 109 cases (5.34 per cent ), Serian 101 cases (4.95 per cent), Samarahan 90 cases (4.41 per cent), Bintulu 82 cases (4.02 per cent), Limbang 81 cases (3.97 per cent ), Sri Aman 56 cases (2.75 per cent), Kapit 42 cases (2.06 per cent) , Betong 41 cases (2.01 per cent ), and Sarikei 38 cases (1.86 per cent)...

KOTA KINABALU: Up to 940 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) have been recorded in the state as of the middle of last month ? an increase of 27 per cent compared to the same period last year.

Sabah Health director Datuk Dr Christina Rundi said that the state capital registered the highest number of cases at 250, followed by Beaufort (148), Sandakan (111), Penampang (109), Tawau (63), Kuala Penyu (40), Tuaran (35) and Putatan (31).

The cases are part of 30 outbreaks reported in the state, which is also an increase over last year?s figure...

Penang records 48% rise in hand, foot and mouth disease cases

State health exco member Dr Afif Bahardin says the number of cases as of July 4 was 1,555, compared with 1,050 during the same period last year.

GEORGE TOWN: Penang has recorded a 48% spike in the number of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) cases in the first half of the year compared with the same period last year.

State Agriculture and Agro-based Industry, Rural Development and Health Committee chairman Dr Afif Bahardin said as of July 4 this year, the number of reported cases stood at 1,555, compared with 1,050 cases in the corresponding period last year.

?For this year to date, a total of 53 nurseries and kindergartens have reported HFMD clusters in their respective premises, which is an increase of 381%, compared with only 11 clusters reported in the same period last year,? he said in a statement today...

HFMD outbreak: 1,691 cases now reported in Penang

GEORGE TOWN, July 12 ? The number of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) cases have now risen to 1,691 cases, an increase of 18 cases from 1,673 cases two days ago.

Penang Health Department Director Dr Wan Mansor Hamzah said a large number of the cases are on the island with 1,207 reported cases and only 484 cases on the mainland.

A total 930 of the cases are concentrated in the Northeast district of the island, around George Town.

?Three primary schools, two nurseries, 14 kindergartens and one daycare centre remains closed as at now,? he said...

SIBU: The hand, mouth and foot disease (HFMD) situation in Sarawak is currently below warning level with the cumulative cases recording a drop thus far this year.

Sarawak Health Department in a statement here today, said there were 3,514 cases recorded until epid. (epidemiology) week 27 (July 8) this year, compared to 6,432 cases in the same period last year.

?Although there is a drop in term of number of cases this year (in Sarawak), weekly cases recorded in the past weeks are higher than that of the weekly cases for 2017, necessitating for the public to be vigilant and take precautionary measures so as the HFMD situation will not breach the alert line,? the department added.

Kuching division recorded the most cases until epid. Week 27 with 996 cases followed by Miri with 758 cases, Sibu (378), Bintulu (288), Serian (202), Mukah (193), Samarahan (185), Limbang (143), Sri Aman (133), Betong (87), Kapit (83) and Sarikei (68)...

The state Health Department says 23 premises remain closed as of July 15.

GEORGE TOWN: The number of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) cases in the state remained on an upward trend, with more cases being reported as of yesterday.

According to the Penang Health Department, 1,832 cases were recorded in the state as of July 15.

This represented a 71.2% increase compared to 1,070 cases recorded during the same period last year.

The department said four new HFMD clusters were recorded on Friday and Saturday, bringing the current total to 80...

GEORGE TOWN: The hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) in Penang is worrying, with over 2,000 cases reported as of today.

According to statistics by the state Health Department, 2,082 cases were reported as of 12pm, an increase of 93.5 per cent at 1,076 cases reported last year.

Thirty-two premises were ordered to close down for cleaning purposes, including seven primary schools, six pre-schools and 11 kindergartens.

Among the seven primary schools, only Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Shih Chung was ordered to fully shut down until July 20, while the others only involved closure of classes...

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah has registered 1,605 cases of Hand, Foot and Mouth disease (HFMD) up until 14 July, this year.

According to Sabah Health Department Director, Datuk Dr Christina Rundi, an average of 58 cases are reported every week.

She also said that there is a five percent drop in the number of cases as compared to the same period last year.

There are cases of Hand, Foot and Mouth disease at all districts in the State...

PETALING JAYA: With the exception of Sabah and Sarawak, most states have shown an increase in hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) cases in 2018 compared to the same period in 2017.

According to Health Ministry update on the latest HFMD situation in Malaysia, there were 722 cases reported on July 18 (Wednesday).

The cumulative amount to-date, from the first epi week (from Saturday to Sunday of the following week) this year, is 33,425 cases.

In a statement on Thursday night, Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (pic) said there are no reported deaths caused by HFMD or EV71 infection...

Children in Malaysia are facing an increased infection risk of Hands, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD) recently, with some states such as Penang and Sabah reporting increased HFMD cases in 2018 compared to the previous year.

According to the Ministry of Health, 2,346 cases of Hand, Foot and Mouth (HMFD) have been reported nationwide for the week of 08/07/2018 to 14/07/2018.

Meanwhile the state of Melaka has also reported a 50 percent increase in the number of HMFD cases.

MOH confirmed that the number of cases in 2018 is higher than in 2017, with a total of 33,425 cases this year (not including cases in East Malaysia)...

PETALING JAYA: Authorities have recorded 35,886 cases of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD), said Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

"Nationwide, 469 premises have been closed, including 217 childcare centres, 223 kindergartens, several classes from 27 schools and one school each in Penang and Pahang."

"The ministry held an inter-agency meeting on July 19 involving those in charge of monitoring nurseries, preschools and primary schools to discuss strategies for prevention and control of HFMD," he said in a statement today...

KUALA SELANGOR: A total of 37,986 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) cases were reported nationwide up till July 26 with many states except Sarawak recording a rise compared to the corresponding period last year.

Health Minister Dr Zulkefly Ahmad said the number of HFMD outbreaks reported were 1,093 with 539 premises closed throughout the country.

?Out of the total number of premises closed, 241 were nurseries, 259 kindergartens and 39 schools,? he told reporters after the anti-Aedes community clean-up programme at Warnasari Residency, Bandar Puncak Alam here yesterday...

PETALING JAYA: A child has died of suspected hand, foot, mouth disease (HFMD) in Sarawak.

The toddler, who was two years and five months old, was from Kampung Pangtray, Daro in Mukah.

In a statement on Saturday, Health Ministry director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the child began to have a fever on July 24 and showed signs of rashes on the palms and feet, as well as oral ulcers the next day.

?The child was taken to the Daro health clinic on July 25, 2018, diagnosed with suspected HFMD and given treatment...

NIBONG TEBAL ? A 17-month-old boy died in Penang on June 6 due to the hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD), said Malaysia's Deputy Health Minister Lee Boon Chye.

He said it was the first fatality in Malaysia due to HFMD and that laboratory tests done on tissue samples from the boy confirmed his death was caused by the disease.

"The boy was admitted to a private hospital in Bayan Lepas, Penang, on June 3 after experiencing flu, breathing difficulty and mouth ulcers but his condition deteriorated and he died three days after receiving treatment at the hospital...

SIBU: The Health Ministry yesterday confirmed that the death of the toddler from Kampung Pangtray in Daro, Mukah on July 28 at Sibu Hospital was due to Enterovirus 71 (EV71) ? one of the major causative agents of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD).

Deputy Health Minister Dr Lee Boon Chye in a WhatsApp message to The Borneo Post confirmed the agent associated with the death of the victim.

?One mortality for Penang (is) confirmed (to be) due to EV71. The mortality case for Sarawak (is) also confirmed (to be from) EV71,? he said when contacted.

He added that as of yesterday (Aug 1), Sarawak recorded a total of 4,708 HFMD cases, while the overall figure nationwide stood at 40,949...

Sabah HFMD cases up although national numbers are down

Sabah health director Dr Christina Rundi says 2,611 new cases detected against 2,200 the previous week.

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah has recorded a rise in hand, foot and mouth (HFMD) disease cases although the total number nationwide shows a decline in the past week.

State health director Dr Christina Rundi said 2,611 cases were detected in Sabah in the past week, up 411 from 2,200 cases in the previous week.

However, Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad yesterday said the number of new HFMD cases reported nationwide dropped in the week up to last Friday by 182 cases to 770 compared to 952 in the previous reporting week.

Rundi said Kota Kinabalu continued to record the highest number of cases compared to other districts, with 564 cases followed by Beaufort (393), Penampang (258) and Sandakan (221).

A total of 24 nurseries, classrooms and schools remained closed due to the outbreak...

NILAI: Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD) remains on an upward trend in Negri Sembilan, with 234 new cases recorded over the last six days.

From January to date, statistics show an increase of 214 per cent or 1,868 cases recorded compared to 594 cases recorded in the same period last year.

State Health, Environment, Cooperatives and Consumerism Committee chairman S. Veerapan said at the moment, four nurseries and pre-schools were still closed due to the disease.

?The spread of HFMD cases by districts to date is Seremban (1,299 cases), Jempol (140), Port Dickson (122), Kuala Pilah (101), Rembau (95), Jelebu (58) and Tampin with 53 cases,? he said...

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia has recorded 47,880 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) between Jan 1 and Thursday.

Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said nearly 90 per cent of the reported cases involved children aged six and below.

This year alone, he added, most states showed an increase in the number of HFMD cases with Selangor recording the highest number at 13,901 cases.

He said the cumulative HFMD cases in the past two days have been dropping and that there were 710 cases reported nationwide yesterday...

KUALA LUMPUR: Over 50,000 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) stemming from the Coxsackie virus have been reported since the outbreak of the disease, says Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.

"Since January and as of Aug 14 (Tuesday) this year, a total of 51,147 HFMD cases have been detected.

"Of this, 6,209 cases were recorded in Sarawak, representing 12.1% of the total number of cases," he said when replying a question raised by Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen (PH-Bandar Kuching) during Question Time in Parliament on Thursday (Aug 16).

Dr Zulkefly said that of the total HFMD cases in Sarawak, 1,387 of them were recorded in Kuching.

On the recent HFMD deaths, Dr Zulkefly said analysis confirmed that the two fatal cases were due to the children contracting the EV-71 virus strain.

However, he assured lawmakers that the current HFMD epidemic was not stemmed from the EV-71 virus...

SIBU: A one-year-old toddler from Sarikei suspected to be suffering from Hand, Foot, Mouth Disease (HFMD), who was referred to Sibu Hospital Thursday is in critical condition.

In confirming this yesterday, Deputy Health Minister Dr Lee Boon Chye said: ?Samples have been sent for viral testing ? awaiting result.?

Dr Lee cautioned that even though the number of HFMD cases has dropped in the past three weeks, the public still need to be vigilant, especially since schools have reopened...
