Health DG: Dengue cases on the rise in 6 states

PUTRAJAYA: Six states have reported an increase in the number of dengue cases in the third week of January.

The six are Selangor, Perak, Kedah, Pahang, Penang and Kelantan, according to the director-general of Health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said from Jan 15 to 21, a total of 2,053 cases were reported in the six states, an increase of 177 cases (9.43%) compared with 1,876 cases in the previous week (Jan 8-14).

Dr Noor Hisham said six deaths were reported in the third week, bringing the cumulative number of deaths nationwide to 13 for the first three weeks of the year compared with 23 deaths for the corresponding period last year.

?The cumulative number of dengue fever cases from Jan 1 to 21 is 5,592 cases, which is a 46.7% drop (4,890 cases) compared with 10,482 cases for the corresponding period last year,? he said in a statement here yesterday...

Three dengue deaths in Penang this year

PERMATANG PAUH: Penang have so far recorded three deaths due to dengue fever.

The latest victim was Gau Tong Sun, 62, of Taman Mokok in Bukit Mertajam, who died on Feb 2 after being admitted to the Bukit Mertajam Hospital on Jan 29.

This has prompted Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng (pix) to advice those who are not feeling well to seek medical treatment.

He said the state recorded 13 deaths from dengue last year compared to 19 in 2015, an average of bout a death a month...

State Health Department deputy director Dr Zainudin Mohd Ali said the woman from Nilai was admitted to the Tuanku Ampuan Najihah Hospital in Kuala Pilah on February 15 but died after two days of treatment.

?Based on the statistics for the same period last year, there were six deaths due to dengue,? he told the press here, today.

Dr Zainuddin said as of Saturday, 66 dengue cases were recorded in the state with Seremban recording the highest number at 53...

Penang records 324 dengue cases as of Feb 25

GEORGE TOWN: Penang has recorded a total of 324 dengue cases as of Feb 25 according to State Health, Agriculture and Agro-based and Rural and Regional Committee chairman Dr Afif Bahardin.

He said this was a 73.29% reduction compared to the same period in 2016 where 1,213 cases were recorded.

He said the state currently has three areas where the disease was uncontrolled comprising Mutiara Idaman, Pesiaran Besi and Taman Machang Bubok.

"There are four deaths from dengue as of the eighth week of this year," he said today in a press conference with Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng...

Malaysia dengue count tops 30,000 in first 4 months

From the beginning of the year through April 2017, Malaysian health authorities have reported 31,528 dengue fever cases, including 69 fatalities.

Selangor is the state with the most cases with 16,710, followed by Perak (2794), Kuala Lumpur (2741), and Johor (2267).

In 2016, Malaysia reported just over 100,000 dengue cases...

GEORGE TOWN: The number of dengue cases in the southwest of Penang Island has increased with two deaths reported since January, said Deputy Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya.

He said among the hotspots were the Mutiara Perdana Flats in Bayan Lepas where 25 dengue cases and one death were reported during the period while another area was Sungai Ara with one death...

SHAH ALAM: Selangor has recorded the highest number of 44,884 dengue cases nationwide from Jan 1 until yesterday, said Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp) deputy chairman Datuk Mat Nadzari Ahmad Dahlan.

He said trailing behind were Johor with 7,877 cases and the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur (7,739 cases)...
