Housewife Dies Of Dengue In Terengganu

BESUT: A 29-year-old housewife has become the first person in Terengganu to die of dengue since 2011.

The woman died of dengue shock syndrome yesterday, said Terengganu Health and Women, Family and Community Development Committee chairman Muhammad Pehimi Yusof.

The housewife was sent to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu on Thursday, he added.

Number Of Dengue Cases In Penang, Pahang And Johor On The Rise

KUALA LUMPUR, March 13 (Bernama) -- The number of dengue cases in Penang, Pahang and Johor reported between March 2 and 8, has showed an increase compared to the previous week.

Health Department director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Penang recorded an increase of 41 per cent or 13 cases, while the number in Pahang increased by 18 per cent or four cases and in Johor, by nine percent or nine cases...

Nine Cases Of Death From Dengue On March 9-15

KUALA LUMPUR, March 21 (Bernama) -- Nine cases of death from dengue was recorded from March 9-15, bringing the total cases to 53 since January this year.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said the latest deaths, involved six women, aged between 25 and 54, and three men, aged 36 and 62, and a 15-year-old student.

"Five of the cases took place in Selangor, followed by two in Johor and one each in Perak and Kelantan," he said in a statement today.

Dr Subramaniam said dengue cases nation-wide had gone up to 1,902 in the period March 9-15, namely, the 11th week dengue was monitored, compared to 1,630 the previous week.

"From January to March 15 this year, a total 21,967 cases were reported, an increase of 321 percent or 16,746 cases compared to 5,221 cases in the same period last year," said Dr Subramaniam.

He said the serotype DEN 2 virus was among the factors in the increase number of deaths from dengue...

Dengue claimed another life in Kedah

ALOR STAR: Dengue fever claimed another life in Kedah, bringing the total fatalities in the state to two, from 293 cases reported for the first three months of this year.
State Health Department director Dr Ismail Abu Taat said the latest death was also in Kuala Muda district, after the first fatality in January, although the number of dengue cases in March had dived to 33 cases.

On Monday, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam had said the country had recorded a drastic rise in dengue fever as 24,917 cases were reported between Jan 1 until March 29, compared with just 6,100 cases for the same period last year.

Statistics by Health Ministry revealed that the dengue cases has increased by 308 per cent, with 58 deaths reported compared with last year's 14 fatalities.

Dengue cases down to 1,300 last week: Subramaniam

MALACCA: The number of dengue cases dropped to only 1,300 cases last week compared to 2,500 reported in the previous week, said Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S Subramaniam.
He said the dip was the result of numerous efforts by the government to curb the breeding of the Aedes mosquito, especially in high-risk areas.

"However, although public awareness on the epidemic is very high, people have yet to change their attitude towards curbing it.

"The situation needs a precise effort from numerous quarters, especially the society," he told reporters after launching a Tirupugal CD containing 22 Hindu religious songs here today.

He said 25,000 dengue cases had been reported nationwide to date with 63 deaths recorded since January.

ALARMING: Number of fatalities from January to April 5 exceeds last year's total
SHAH ALAM: THE number of dengue fatalities in Selangor from Jan 1 to April 5 this year has surpassed the number of fatalities recorded in the state last year.
Local Government, Research and Development Committee chairman Datuk Teng Chang Khim said 14,654 dengue cases and 25 dengue-related deaths had been recorded in the state up to April 5, compared with 24 deaths in the whole of last year.

PUTRAJAYA: A total of 29,788 dengue cases were reported this year until April 26, an increase of 277 per cent compared with 7,912 cases for the same period last year.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said that for the same period 66 deaths due to dengue were recorded, an increase of 340 per cent compared to 15 deaths last year.

"On the 17th week, from April 20 to 26, a total of 974 dengue cases were reported compared with 1,252 cases in the previous week and this showed a decrease of 22 per cent.

"On the whole, dengue cases nationwide show a declining trend," he said in a statement, Thursday...

75 Dengue Deaths Reported From January Till June 7

PUTRAJAYA, June 12 (Bernama) -- A total of 75 deaths due to dengue fever was reported from January until June 7 nationwide, compared to 22 deaths over the same period last year.

In a statement here today, the director-general of Health Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the number had increased by 241 per cent.

The latest three deaths reported last week involved a 45-year-old man from Kuala Lumpur and two women, aged 40 and 53 years, from Selangor and Kedah respectively.

Dr Noor Hisham said in the 23rd week (June 1-7), 1,586 cases were reported and there was a decrease of 10 per cent (169 cases) compared to 1,755 reported in the 22nd week.

"The total number of dengue cases from January to June 7 was 38,411 with an increase of 252 per cent compared with 10,910 cases reported in the same period last year," he said...

Rise in number of patients being admitted for dengue

PETALING JAYA: Several private hospitals in the Klang Valley have seen a rise in the number of patients being admitted for dengue.

These hospitals have also found an increase in the number of those seeking outpatient treatment for fever and respiratory problems due to the hot and dry weather...

...In a statement, Najib said the task force would be headed by Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and would involve several ministries and local councils. "We hope the establishment of this special task force will be able to curb the rise in dengue cases and at the same time implement preventive measures more effectively throughout the country," the prime minister said.

According to official sources, the total number of reported dengue cases throughout the country this year rose to 42,229 compared to 12,143 for the same period last year. As of June 21 this year, 82 people have died of dengue nationwide, compared to 25 deaths recorded over the same period last year.

He also said that the number of reported dengue fever cases for the week was 2,163, with Selangor registering the highest among the states at 1,036.

SHAH ALAM: The government will declare dengue hot spots as outbreak areas if dengue cases continue to rise, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said such a move would give full power to the health minister to implement prevention and control initiatives in accordance to the Destruction of Disease-Bearing Insects Act 1975 (Amendment 2000)...

...From January to July 17 this year, 50,804 dengue cases were reported nationwide, an increase of 36,222 cases or 248 per cent from only 14,582 cases for the same period last year.

Ninety-four deaths from dengue fever were also reported, a rise of 224 per cent from only 29 deaths during the same period in 2013...

PETALING JAYA - The number of dengue cases has dropped to 2,989 cases for the week July 13 to 19 compared to 3,142 cases the week earlier.

However, the number of deaths rose from two cases to seven for the same period.

With the latest reported cases, the total number has soared to 54,976 cases from January to July 27, three-and-a-half times more than the number during the same period last year - 15,400 cases.


The Health Ministry's Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre, which updated the figures on Facebook yesterday, revealed that there were 101 deaths compared with 31 the same period last year.

56,810 cases of dengue this year

KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry has recorded 56,810 dengue cases this year, said the Health Ministry?s vector borne disease sector head, Dr Rose Nani Mudin.

The number of cases was recorded between Jan 1 and Aug 2, and showed a marked increased compared with the 16,054 dengue cases recorded in the same period last year.

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 12 ? The federal government has issued an order for all local councils, especially in Selangor, to work with their federal counterparts to properly manage solid waste management in their areas, as dengue figures rose to nearly 60,000 cases as of last Saturday.

The National Committee on Dengue today revealed that a total of 59,790 cases were recorded as at August 9, an over threefold increase from the 16,585 reported cases over the same period last year.

The figures include 123 deaths, four times greater than the 33 deaths recorded over the corresponding period of 2013...
