Not reporting dengue cases is an offence, says Liow​

KUALA LUMPUR: Medical practitioners who fail to report dengue cases treated at their respective facilities will face action under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act, Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said...


"The ministry found 213 dengue cases treated by the hospital and of the total, six were not reported to any health office," he said, adding that the ministry would carry out continuous monitoring on private and government clinics and hospital to ensure all dengue cases are reported.

Dengue claimed two lives during the first week of this year, he said.​

THE Health Ministry will convene weekly dengue task force meetings in all districts to find ways to control the outbreak of the disease...

459 cases of dengue fever reported during third week of 2012

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 27 (Bernama) -- A total of 459 cases of dengue fever, with two deaths, were reported during the week between Jan 15 and 21 this year, a drop of 22 cases with one death from the previous week, Health Director-General Datuk Seri Dr Hasan Abdul Rahman said today.

However, he said, the number of fatalities due to dengue showed an increase with four people so far this year, from only one during the corresponding period last year.

"Last week alone there were two deaths, one each in Selangor and dan Negeri Sembilan," he said in a statement here.

KUALA LUMPUR: THIS month alone, six people, including two students, died of haemorrhagic dengue, Health director-general Datuk Dr Hasan Abdul Rahman said.
Expressing concern, Dr Hasan said the death toll had doubled from the three cases reported in the same period last year.

He said of the six victims, between the ages of 9 and 50, three died in Selangor, another two in Kuala Lumpur and one in Negri Sembilan.

545 dengue cases, four deaths reported

KUALA LUMPUR: Four dengue-related deaths in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Sabah, and 545 cases nationwide were reported between Jan 29 and Feb 4, this year.

The figures indicated an increase of 57 cases or 12 per cent as compared to the previous week which recorded two deaths and 488 cases, said Health director-general Datuk Seri Dr Hasan Abdul Rahman...

11 dengue deaths so far

GENTING HIGHLANDS: Selangor recorded the highest number of dengue cases, with 1,271 cases reported from last month, Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said.

This figure was almost 50% of the 2,854 cases nationwide. Eleven deaths were reported so far, he added.

He urged the public to do their part in eradicating the spread of the Aedes mosquito, which also transmits the chikungunya virus.

The numbers compare with the 2,781 cases and six deaths reported in the same period last year.

Liow said Kuala Lumpur had 313 cases...

Woman dies of dengue in Selangor

PUTRAJAYA: A 39-year-old woman died of dengue fever in the week beginning Feb 5 when 513 cases of the disease were reported in the country, down from 545 cases involving four deaths in the week before, according to the Director-General of Health Datuk Seri Dr Hasan Abdul Rahman.
He said in a statement today that the woman, a technician in a communications company, was from Selangor.
"Her house was found to have a high incidence of Aedes mosquito breeding, at 2.9 per cent. As such, the local community conducted a gotong-royong clean-up of their area to destroy the Aedes breeding grounds," he said.

One More Dies Of Dengue

PUTRAJAYA, Feb 23 (Bernama) -- A 19-year old male student has died of dengue in Selangor for the period between Feb 12 to Feb 18, said Health Ministry in a statement.

It said inspections revealed breeding places of the Aedes mosquito at the patient's resident was high which was 5.8 percent.

During the period, 585 cases were reported with an increase of 72 cases compared to the week before...

SHAH ALAM: Dengue cases recorded a 40 percent jump from January to Feb 18 compared to the same period last year.

Executive councillor Dr Xavier Jayakumar (pic) said 1,581 cases have been reported in Selangor compared to 1,126 last year.

Dengue death toll shows worrying increase

KAJANG: The death toll due to dengue recorded in the first two months this year has shown a worrying increase with 15 deaths as compared to only eight in the corresponding period last year.


Director-General of Health Datuk Seri Dr Hasan Abdul Rahman said three of the deaths recorded this year involved children.

"The dengue situation in our country is not very good. The death toll has increased by almost two-fold (throughout January and February) this year as compared to the same period last year," he told reporters after attending the launch of anti-dengue squad at Sekolah Menengah Vokasional Kajang here today.

Dr Hasan said the number of dengue cases had also increased by 14 per cent to 4,453 during the said period as compared to 3,915 cases previously.

KLANG: The recent wet season, which has drenched the state these past few months, has not only caused floods but also led to a wave of dengue infections and deaths.

The flood-prone Klang municipality has recorded a high of 724 cases in just three months this year compared to a total of 1,100 cases in 2011 and 1,400 cases in 2010.

?Klang posted the highest number of dengue cases reported nationwide,? said Klang Municipal Council (MPK) health department acting director Zulkifli Abbas during a talk on dengue at the council?s auditorium last Saturday.

The three deaths in Klang - one reported every month up to March - is also raising alarms.

KUALA LUMPUR: Seventeen people have died of dengue haemorrhagic fever this year. Health director-general Datuk Dr Hasan Abdul Rahman said this showed that public involvement in gotong-royong sessions was still unsatisfactory, causing dengue breeding grounds to be prevalent.

MOSQUITOES IN KLANG HOSPITAL'S DENGUE WARD (The Star: 12-04-2012) - MOH

We refer to the article in The Star dated April 12, 2012, (VIEWS, PAGE: 47). We would like to thank the writer for raising this issue of the mosquito menace in the dengue ward, as well as the positive comments that the writer has highlighted about the cleanliness of the ward and the dedication and efficiency of the doctors and nurses in the hospital. We are also glad to know that the writer has recovered from his illness.

It is the policy of the Ministry of Health to ensure all health facilities are aedes-free and the Hospital has already an ongoing Aedes Free Health Facility Programme encompassing regular aedes survey for mosquitoes breeding within the hospital premises, treating potential breeding areas with abate and facility maintenance related services.

Despite these active measures being undertaken, there are occasions where we do encounter mosquitoes within the hospital premises. We have since made available mosquito repellents in all wards to address this issue.

8,052 Dengue cases reported since January

KUALA LUMPUR (April 25, 2012): More than 8,000 dengue cases including 18 deaths have been reported since January to April this year.

Deputy Health Minister Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin said this year, 8,052 cases were reported compared to 6,594 cases and 12 deaths during the same period last year.

She explained that the deaths were due to complicated dengue hemorrhagic fever, patients who received late treatment or treatments that were not optimised.

Health Ministry sounds alarm over spike in dengue cases

KUCHING: The State Health Department yesterday confirmed that the outbreak of dengue in Lawas is now over as there has been no more new cases recorded this week.

KUALA LUMPUR (June 16, 2012): A 66-year-old senior citizen in Perak became the latest dengue casualty last week.

Health director-general Datuk Seri Dr Hassan Abdul Rahman said with the housewife's case, the death toll reached 21 last Wednesday, an increase by seven compared to 14 fatalities for the same period last year.

Hand, foot and mouth disease and dengue on the rise

SERI KEMBANGAN: Nearly 5,000 dengue cases and 4,600 hand, foot and mouth disease were recorded in Selangor from Jan 1 till the second week of June.

Executive councillor Dr Xavier Jayakumar told the press last Sunday 4,908 dengue cases and 12 deaths were reported in the state as of June 12.

The situation is most dire in Klang, with four deaths and 1,445 cases, followed by three deaths each in Petaling district (1,364 cases) and Hulu Langat (1,092 cases).

The Gombak and Kuala Langat districts also each reported a death due to dengue.
