Malaria outbreak reported in Kenya's Central Rift town

Kenya - The Kenya Ministry of Health has issued an alert over a suspected outbreak of malaria in areas around the Central Rift Valley town of Naivasha.
Media reports Monday quoted the medical officer in charge of the area, Joseph Lenai, as confirming that several cases of the killer tropical disease have been reported in the lakeside town, 85 kilometres west of Nairobi, the Kenyan capital.
He however assured the public that measures had been taken to contain the outbre ak, saying his field officers were also on high alert to deal with the outbreak.
``There is no cause for alarm and our officers are on high alert as the disease shoots up in July and August due to the cold weather,'' Lenai told the Nairobi-based East African Standard newspaper.
