Malaria kills 189 in 2 months in Zimbabwe - Health officials in Zimbabwe said Tuesday malaria had claimed the lives of 189 people in the last two months, blaming the unusually high death toll on lack of drugs.
Stanford Mashaire, a senior Health Ministry medical officer, said over 130,000 cases of malaria were reported countrywide over the last two months.
He said a combination of lack of drugs, and failure to spray mosquitoes in traditional malaria areas, had caused the high death toll.
But he said the government had since remedied the situation, and fewer malaria cases were now being reported.
'We no longer have a malaria outbreak. All affected areas are now under control. We are seeing less cases now compared to a month ago,' Mashaire said.
