Malaria cases rising in Mumbai at an Alarming Rate

Wednesday night claimed two more deaths due to Malaria in Mumbai. The victims were a 16-year old boy from Haji Ali and a 50-year old man from Goregaon. Total number of 45 people has died of Malaria in the city SINCE JANUARY, 2010 and the total of 988 patients has been tested positive since 1st August. Although the situation seems alarming, but BMC is claiming that the outbreak of Malaria is showing a decline.
However, according to the BMC figures on Malaria, daily around 5000 blood samples are received in the city hospitals, out of these almost 300 are diagnosed with Malaria.
Mumbai?s Mayor Shraddha Jadhav did not admit that the Malaria outbreak is out of the control of BMC. She said that the BMC has succeeded in preventing further rise of Malaria cases in the city.
The authorities are putting blame on the 300000 out station workers, who have come from different parts of the country to do construction work in the city. There are approximately 2500 constructions sites in the city.
Jayant Patil, the guardian minister of Mumbai said ?There is a possibility that they carry malaria into the city. A regular check up of these workers is the responsibility of the builders.? He also blamed the monsoon season in the city, that the measures taken by the BMC went wrong. He added that the BMC measures were appropriate but due to heavy rainfall every effort gone in vein...
