Woman may have been attacked by rabid woodchuck

Caroline Cornish, Reporter 16 hrs ago

CORNISH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A woman in Cornish is being treated for rabies after being attacked by a woodchuck this weekend.

Just a week ago, a man in Brunswick was attacked by a rabid racoon.

State health officials say there have not been an unusual number of cases of rabies this year, but these incidents do serve as a reminder about how we should act around wild animals.

Tiffany Tutor admits she made the mistake that health officials say about 2/3rds of people who are bitten by rabid animals make. She called to the woodchuck when she saw it near her barn. When it came over, she just thought it was being cute. Then, it jumped up on the back of her leg and bit her.
