Maine CDC Reports 21 Influenza-Related Deaths

Twenty-one individuals have died due to complications from influenza so far this season, Maine's CDC confirmed Friday.

The Maine Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that there's "widespread" flu activity in all 16 counties. Maine had reported 1,187 cases of people who had tested positive for flu through Jan. 13...

[h=1]Flu virus rampant in Hancock County[/h] Five people have been hospitalized in Hancock County this week due to influenza, according to the Maine Weekly Influenza Surveillance Report issued Tuesday by the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

The state of Maine has had five deaths due to the flu this week alone, with a total of 22 deaths for the 2017-2018 season to date, the Maine CDC stated.
 
Maine is reporting 28 flu-related deaths through Week 4.

There were 876 new cases of influenza in Maine, a 63-percent increase over the previous week, as well as 120 new hospitalizations and five deaths attributed to the flu.

The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention released the new data on Wednesday, bringing the total for this season ? which began last October and runs through May but is nearing its peak ? to almost 3,300 cases, as well as 667 hospitalizations and 34 deaths.

The weekly surveillance data for the prior week is released on Wednesdays.

According to the data, there were 793 positive lab tests for influenza, bringing the total to almost 5,000 for the season.

Another three people have died from the flu in Maine, bringing the season's total to 55. But there are also signs that the worst of the season is over.

Statistics from the Maine Center for Disease Control suggest that the number of influenza cases has dropped for a third consecutive week. All told, the state had 636 new confirmed cases and 113 hospitalizations in the past week. The total number of confirmed cases now stands at more than 5,600.
