Another malaria death, hospitals take charge

A 52-year-old man from Parel, who had been in hospital since August 3 died of malaria on Saturday. Eleven people in the city have died of malaria so far this month and public hospitals admitted 207 malaria patients on Sunday. The civic body has started special evening departments in private
hospitals to screen more fever patients for malaria on Sunday.
Lilavati Hospital at Bandra, Bombay Hospital at Marine Lines, Dr LH Hiranandani Hospital at Powai, Shushrusha Hospital at Shivaji Park, BPT Hospital at Wadala, Kokilaben Ambani Hospital at Andheri and Fortis Hospital at Vashi are among those that have started special fever OPDs.
In accordance with the BMC?s decision to distribute health cards to all construction workers, about 32,000 workers from 587 sites have been given health cards so far.
Civic reports said, 82 people have tested positive for swine flu in the first week of August. Among other rain-related illnesses, public hospitals admitted 492 cases of fever, 59 cases of gastroenteritis, three cases of leptospirosis and seven cases of dengue on Sunday.
