Latest swine flu victim a 25-year-old pregnant woman

The death of a 25-year-old pregnant woman from Junnar tehsil in Pune district due to swine flu has led the health authorities to caution the rural hospitals to step up treatment specially of patients suffering from fever, cold and cough.
The 25-year-old woman who was in the 39th week of pregnancy developed symptoms from October 2 and complained of breathlessness on October 6.
She did not avail of medication till October 4 after which she was taken to Ghadge Hospital at Ambegaon tehsil. While supportive IV fluids were administered, the woman was referred to KEM hospital in Pune for higher management. She was admitted to KEM Hospital where doctors immediately administered Tamiflu tablet. A C-section was done on October 7 and she delivered a baby girl. However, the newborn died immediately after delivery.
The woman also did not respond to treatment. Her throat swab was taken October 8 and sent to the National Institute of Virology.
The swab tested positive for H1N1 virus on October 9, but by then her condition was critical and she died today at 4.15 p.m due to swine flu related symptoms such as pneumonia with acute respiratory distress syndrome.
