75 private hospitals part of state's surveillance project

PUNE: The Union government's project for keeping a watch on infectious diseases by roping in private hospitals, at least one from each taluka, is slowly catching up in the state. A total of 75 private hospitals across 33 districts in Maharashtra have already become a part of the surveillance machinery.
Under the Integrated Disease Surveillance Project (IDSP), the state government decided to rope in private hospitals to strengthen the reporting system of waterborne and vector-borne diseases, which have the potential to turn into an epidemic. The aim is to check infectious diseases at the very beginning and prevent its transmission.
"The movement is slowly gaining momentum. Around 65% of the total 75 private hospitals submit their weekly report without fail. Of the member hospitals, 35 have enrolled in the last three months," state surveillance officer Pradip Awate said on Thursday. A meeting of all 33 district surveillance officers will take place in Pune on September 30 to draft further course of action.
