Re: Magnitude 7.3 - EAST OF THE KURIL ISLANDS

this earthquake caused many Alaskan seismographs to go "off the chart". See here for a clickable map of some seismographs.

If you go to the seismograph at Coldfoot (click on "COLD" near the top of the map) - you can see the waves from an earlier quake, plus the start of the Kuril Islands quake. This location is far enough away, that the lines aren't blended all over the graph. It looks as if it reached that graph at 17:51:30 - see the end of the steady green line.

The graph from St.Paul Islands (labeled SPIA) must have it's sensitivity turned down to not show wave action. It's above the Aleutian Islands. It's a nice small classical graph - you can easily make out the "P," "S", & longitudinal waves.

Re: Magnitude 7.3 - EAST OF THE KURIL ISLANDS

I did the calculations for the earlier quakes shown on the Alaskan seismogrpahs - it's from the Loyalty Islands quake. It arrived at the Gambell (St. Lawrence Island) seismograph at about 07:39 UTC.
