Man dies of Swine flu in Indore

Indore, Sep 13 (PTI) Swine Flu today claimed the life of an Ujjain-resident who was undergoing treatment at MY Hospital here.

Jagdish Karpari (35) was found H1N1 positive by a Jabalpur laboratory on September 5, and was referred to MY hospital on September 6, health officials said. He died this morning.

7 more suspected swine flu cases in Bhopal

BHOPAL: Seven samples of suspected swine flu cases were sent for tests here on Thursday. Even as the swine flu scare persists, senior state health officials have called for increased surveillance to keep the H1N1 strain of virus from spreading. Swine flu has led to three deaths in Bhopal.

According to health officials, four of the seven suspected cases are local residents. They include two residents of Karond area, a 74-year old and 8-month old infant. A 24-year-old from Pipali and another woman aged around 45.

"There of the seven suspected cases are critical and all are place under quarantine," said district chief medical and health officer (CMHO) Dr Pankaj Shukla.

One more swine flu death in city

BHOPAL: Swine flu claimed another victim, a 45-year-old woman, in the city,. With this death on Saturday, the death toll from the disease went to four in last six March, according to health officials. Meanwhile, swine flu scare continued in the state capital where six more samples of suspected H1N1 cases were sent to the ICMR laboratory at Jabalpur.

According to health officials, the woman who was admitted to a private hospital last week, died on Saturday morning. However, a 26-year-old man who was found positive for swine flu on Friday, is recovering, said a health official. The condition of all six suspected patients in different hospitals in the city is stated to be critical.

Another swine flu patient died at the LBS Hospital on Saturday. This is the eighth death because of swine flu in the state and the fourth death in the city. The patient, Gayatri Bai, was undergoing treatment at the hospital for the past one week. Bai, a resident of Sagar, was admitted to the LBS Hospital as she had high fever and breathlessness.

4 test positive for H1N1

INDORE: Four samples sent to Jabalpur from Indore, have been tested positive for swine flu on Sunday.

The four positive include a four year old and a female.

14 samples were sent to Jabalpur for H1N1 confirmation on Friday, said health department sources. All the patients have been admitted to different hospitals in the city.

NAGPUR: Another man admitted in city's Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) tested positive for swine flu on Monday. Ten more samples were sent to Pune for confirming the H1N1 status of the patient.

On Friday, GMCH had sent four samples to National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune. Of these, only one sample that belongs to a 34-year-old man from Madhya Pradesh was found to be positive.

Since April this year, 11 people have tested positive for the infection. Currently, five patients are undergoing treatment at GMCH Swine Flu ward.

1 more dies of swine flu

INDORE: Swine flu claimed yet another life in the city on Thursday resulting to two deaths from H1N1 disease in the last 10 days here. The deceased was identified as a 35-year-old patient from Ujjain who was admitted to Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital on August 26 after reporting respiratory problems.

He was tested H1N1 positive on August 29 and his condition deteriorated. He died on Thursday. This takes the total toll due to swine flu in the city this year to three. Meanwhile, two out of eight samples that were sent for confirmatory test at Jabalpur lab have tested positive for the flu.

INDORE: Swine flu claimed yet another life on Monday leading to four deaths from H1N1 disease this season from city and nearby districts. The deceased was identified as a 23-year-old female patient from Ujjain who was rushed to Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital on Monday with respiratory problems.

According to health department officials, the patient was referred from Ujjain but she died on way to the hospital.

Two H1N1 positive

INDORE: Out of 12 swab samples that were sent to Jabalpur lab for confirmatory test two were found positive with swine flu on Tuesday. Both are males aging 33 and 39 years from Ashta and Indore respectively and undergoing treatment in private hospitals in city. Meanwhile, 11 more swab samples were sent for confirmatory test on Tuesday.

With this a total of 74 samples have been sent for confirmatory test to Jabalpur lab, of which 63 reports have been received by health department. 19 patients have been confirmed positive with the flu.

Chhatar Singh, a resident of Raisen, died at the LBS hospital here yesterday. He was admitted on Monday for fever and headache.

Swine flu claims two lives in Indore

Indore: Swine flu on Wednesday claimed two lives in Indore, taking the death toll due to the disease in the city to four since May this year, official sources said.

Two-year-old Atharv Chudhary of Dhar district and twelve-year-old Rupali, a city resident, died following H1N1 virus infection at private hospitals in the city.

Five others had tested positive for the swine flu, and were being treated in the city, officials said. Swab samples of another five patients were sent for tests to Jabalpur on Wednesday.

3 suspected H1N1 samples sent to ICMR lab

BHOPAL: Three swab samples of suspected cases were sent to ICMR laboratory in Jabalpur on Wednesday.

The suspected cases, three children are currently being treated in a city-based private hospital.

Flu OPD run in government-run hospitals continued to report for people with respiratory problems.

District integrated disease surveillance project (IDSP) office said all four samples sent on Tuesday to ICMR laboratory in Jabalpur tested negative for H1N1 infection. In Bhopal, 16 people have tested positive for deadly H1N1 infection resulting in 6 deaths.

Early reporting, surveillance to curb H1N1 spread

BHOPAL: Swine flu, which spreads from human contact, is now considered endemic in state and health officials insist that early reporting and proactive surveillance are needed to control swine flu from spreading. In last fortnight, swine flu cases have risen in the state in the last fortnight and the disease has claimed 16 lives in the state so this year.

State Integrated disease surveillance project (IDSP) in charge Dr K K Thassu said over 300 suspected cases of swine flu have been reported so far this year. Of these, swab samples of 65 persons have tested positive for H1N1 infection by Jabalpur-based Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) laboratory.

BHOPAL: Fourteen more samples of patients from across the state sent for H1N1 confirmation in the past 24 hours have tested positive for swine flu. Out of the 14 cases, nine are from Bhopal city alone. The spread of the deadly H1N1 virus doesn't look a local outbreak anymore.

BHOPAL: A 70-year-old woman succumbed to swine flu on Saturday night, taking the death toll to seven in Bhopal. District integrated disease surveillance project (IDSP) sent 8 samples of suspected swine flu cases to the ICMR laboratory in Jabalpur on Sunday evening.

A total 29 positive cases have been reported in the city so far this year. The swine flu scare continued as 27 out of 30 undergoing treatment are reportedly in a critical state, according to health officials.

MP: One more swine flu death in Indore

Indore: Swine flu on Monday claimed the life of a 39-year-old man here, taking the total number of deaths due to the H1N1 virus to five in Indore this season, health department officials said.

The victim, Mahendra Singh Thakur succumbed to the disease at a private hospital, they said.

Thakur had been admitted to the hospital in a serious condition around ten days back, they said, adding that so far five persons had lost their lives at private hospitals here due to the disease.

Swine flu killing doctors now

Despite attempts by the state health department to downplay the incidence of swine flu in Madhya Pradesh, the high mortality rate among those afflicted by it is actually alarming. Bhopal tops the death toll with seven out of 28 patients testing positive for H1N1 virus succumbing during treatment.
Indore is not far behind, where five of as many patients have died of the dreaded virus.



In fact, the incharge of swine flu cell at the directorate of health, Dr KK Thassu, issued a circular some days ago asking people not to be scared of swine flu as it is no more an epidemic but only an endemic disease which could be cured through medication. At that time, swine flu scare seemed to be receding as most of the suspected swine flu patients were testing negative and those admitted for treatment were responding well at both government and private hospitals. But in the past few days, the situation has changed dramatically.

On Saturday, nine out of 11 samples sent for confirmation of swine flu tested positive, giving a clear indication that the infection was on the rise and facilities for its treatment grossly inadequate.

Another remarkable aspect of swine flu scare this season is the fact that a number of doctors are also catching the infection. Two doctors of LBS Hospital in Bhopal tested positive for swine flu on Monday. In Jabalpur, two doctors including the dean of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College are being treated for swine flu. Another doctor in the city, who had tested positive for the disease, has since been discharged. But to their credit, doctors in Jabalpur have not allowed any swine flu patient to die though number of persons testing positive in the confirmation test is more or less the same as Bhopal and Indore -- 26 to be precise.

In the wake of a growing number of doctors catching the infection, the directorate of health has made it mandatory for all the doctors and paramedical staff coming in direct contact with swine flu patients to get themselves vaccinated.
