French President Emmanuel Macron has announced a new nationwide lockdown from Friday to stem a surge in coronavirus patients in French hospitals, warning that the second wave of the virus is "likely to be deadlier than the first".

The French president said a nationwide lockdownwould be enforced initially until December 1, though schools and creches will remain open.

The new measures, which come into force on Friday, will mean people have to stay in their homes except to buy essential goods, seek medical attention, or use their daily one-hour allocation of exercise.

Cafes, restaurants and shops will shut down unless they are deemed to be selling essential goods, such as supermarkets and pharmacies.

International丨Paris before the lockdown: A large number of citizens fled overnight, and the road was crowded with vehicles.

On the evening of October 29, citizens of Paris, France, rushed out of the city before it was closed, causing serious traffic jams. The whistle sounded one after another, and the whole city was illuminated by car lights. Many citizens went out to eat the "last dinner" before the city was closed. On October 30, France formally implemented the second round of nationwide "city closures." The "closure of the city" lasted for one month in response to the sharp rebound of the new crown pneumonia epidemic.
