Person infected with measles visited Rockport May 3

ROCKPORT ? If you visited downtown Rockport on May 3, you may need to get a measles shot after a person with the highly infectious disease visited town.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) and the Boston Public Health Commission have confirmed that the individual, who was visiting Massachusetts from Europe and who has an unknown vaccination history, as the first case of measles in the state this year.

State officials say the person was in Rockport on Tuesday, May 3, between 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., visiting downtown Rockport and Bearskin Neck, specifically The Pewter Shop, Sea Star Gift Shop and Brothers? Brew Coffee Shop.

"These are the known exposure sites," learned through interviews with the individual, said Scott Zoback, interim director of communications for DPH. Zoback did not know how the person traveled to Rockport...

The following announcement was issued Thursday morning by the state Department of Public Health:

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) and the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) have confirmed the first case of measles in the Commonwealth this year, in an individual with an unknown vaccination history who recently visited Massachusetts from Europe. There have been potential exposures over the past week in the greater Boston area (see the detailed list below), from May 1?8, 2016. MDPH and BPHC recommend that those potentially exposed call their healthcare providers or the health department with questions or concerns. Boston residents and exposed individuals who work or attend school in Boston should call BPHC at 617-534-5611. Those outside Boston should contact MDPH at 617-983-6800 or their local health department...
