Nurses vaccinated office workers in a Back Bay building this afternoon as Boston disease trackers worked to contain the potential spread of measles after an employee at the French consulate fell ill with the highly infectious germ.

So far, the consulate worker, a woman in her 20s, is the only person who has developed symptoms of the respiratory illness, said Dr. Anita Barry, top disease specialist at the Boston Public Health Commission...

5 new measles cases have MA doctors on alert

BOSTON -- Five new cases of measles have medical centers in Massachusetts on alert.

The new cases have all been reported within the past week. There are five new cases and the patients range in age from 16 months to 65 years old.

One new case is a visitor from Europe and one had recently returned from Spain. The other three cases did not travel.

Doctors want to know how they contracted the measles.

The recent cases come just a few months after several cases were found at the French Consulate in February...

Five new cases of measles have been confirmed in Boston: one is a resident and four are out-of-towners who recently visited the city while contagious, according to an announcement today by the Boston Public Health Commission.

The patients, ages 16 months to 65 years, include a man who worked at South Station while contagious. So far, the cases appear unrelated. "We're still trying to see if there's any link, but we have nothing at this point to connect them," says comission spokeswoman Ann Scales...

The state Department of Public Health confirmed another case of measles today, bringing the total for the year to 11, including six this month.


The Boston Public Health Commission yesterday warned that people who have not been vaccinated should monitor themselves for symptoms, including high fever, runny nose, cough, and red, watery eyes followed by a skin rash.

So far, officials said, the six recent cases appear unconnected. They also seem unrelated to a small outbreak in February tied to a Park Square office building...

Alan Balsam did not provide any further information about the cases, but a concerned parent wrote to NewsCenter 5 to say a measles alert had been sent out by the Driscoll Middle School principal by email...

Four new cases of measles have been confirmed in the Boston area since May 12 bringing the state total to 10 cases this month and 15 this year.

A Northeastern University student was confirmed with having measles yesterday, according to the Boston Public Health Commission. And two measles cases were found in elementary school students at a Brookline public school...

Measles continues to spread in the state, with two new cases confirmed on Monday. One involved a 23-month-old boy from Boston who had received his first measles vaccination last year, according to the Boston Public Health Commission. The other was a teen-age boy from outside the city who was treated at a Boston health care facility.

That brings the state total to 17 this year -- and counting. In each of the previous four years, Massachusetts has had just one to three cases...

Teen volunteer at aquarium was contagious with measles

A 17-year-old from Vermont who volunteered at the New England Aquarium on two afternoons in late May was contagious with measles, public health officials said last night.

The Boston Public Health Commission said anyone who was in the Boston aquarium?s main building after noon on May 19 or May 22 may have been exposed to measles and should ?refrain from public activity?? for 21 days from the date of exposure if they do not know whether they are immune to the virus.

Aquarium spokesman Tony LaCasse said there was no indication last night that any guests or workers were infected.
He said the commission and the aquarium first learned of the case yesterday evening. Officials did not release the name of the infected volunteer...

BOSTON -- Health officials are investigating another possible case of the measles in Massachusetts.

The State Department of Public Health is trying to confirm the case in a person at the Bose Corp. in Westborough. There have already been 17 cases of measles this year in the Bay State.

The latest outbreak of the measles in Massachusetts has state health officials concerned. "It really is a real worry for us. We have not had this many cases since 2006. We've had 17 cases so far this year and 12 since May 1," Massachusetts of Public Health Dr. Al DeMaria said...

The Centers for Disease Control has confirmed that the suspected case of measles at Bose Corporation, 9 Technology Drive, is positive.

"The test has come back with a positive result from the CDC," noted Director of Public Health for the Town of Westborough, Paul McNulty.

"Effective today if a Bose employee cannot provide proof of the vaccine, they must immediately get vaccinated or be excluded from work," McNulty said. "The clinic to receive the MMR vaccine began at 8 a.m. this morning (at the Bose Corporation)with 300 doses of the MMR..."
