GUADALAJARA, JALISCO (27/FEB/2011) .- Asthma, along with chronic lung disease, is the main object of attention in the Service of Pneumology of the Hospital of Pediatrics, National Medical Center West ( st ) of IMSS Jalisco, being the most affected children in preschool and school.

The specialist pulmonologist, H?ctor Hern?n Ruiz, said that in a week in this service are seen between 45 and 50 patients, half of them diagnosed with asthma.

He noted that this universe of patients, 15 are new cases of asthma and other lung diseases, including gastroesophageal reflux mentioned with respiratory manifestations, pulmonary hypertension, cystic fibrosis and even foreign.

He said that while asthma is the most frequent diagnosis of attention as a reason in pulmonology, pathology that follows in order of importance by the volume of patients is chronic lung disease.

"It is a challenge to the pulmonologist because of their symptoms, which according to very specific characteristics should be grouped into one or other of a range of groups such conditions," he said.

He mentioned that from regional hospitals and the area of IMSS in the state, and possibly of the family medicine, they are sent patients with lung problems whose treatment requires specialized care as that provided in the Hospital of Pediatrics.

He explained that illnesses is that, whether acquired or congenital, are high risk, and that compromise respiratory function, and thus its diagnosis from the primary care level, has a fundamental role in the prognosis of the patient.

He indicated that the high rate of premature births is also a factor that predisposes children to have lung problems
