One dead, dengue alert sounded

Lucknow, June 23 A day after a 22-year-old youth died of dengue fever at a Lucknow hospital, the Health department has issued an alert across the state and has asked the hospitals to immediately report them if more cases of the disease come to light.
?We were not expecting dengue before September but since a death has been reported, all hospitals have been put on alert and asked to immediately report any fresh case so that disease control activities can be started immediately in the areas concerned,? said Dr A K Shukla, the Chief Medical Officer of Lucknow.
Ajit Kumar Singh from Ismaileganj was admitted to Vivekananda Hospital on June 17. His condition worsened as his platelet count plummeted leading to his death on Sunday. Talking to The Indian Express, Pankaj Seth, PRO of the hospital said: ?Dengue was confirmed in the ELISA test of the patient and we have submitted the report to the Chief Medical Officer of Lucknow.?
The CMO, meanwhile, said that they have sent the samples to the virology laboratory at Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences to verify whether Singh had died of dengue.
