Lucknow: Following the increasing number of cases,Bulanshahr jail authorities have also launched regular fogging on the premises. The first death of Neeraj Sharma, booked in a case of bootlegging and lodged in the jail for over a month, was reported on the night of October 3.However,the cause of the death according to jail superintendent Dhadi Ram Maurya as per the post-mortem report was stated to be cardiac arrest.
Two more deaths were reported on October 7.The deceased were identified as Munna and Shahzaad, both booked under Arms Act about a few days back,Maurya said. However, the cause of their deaths could not be ascertained till now.
As of now, about two-dozen patients are reported to be ill, said the jail superintendent, adding of them about half-adozen are confirmed cases of Malaria and admitted to jail hospital. Although Maurya didnt elaborate further, jail sources informed TOI that three other inmates had been admitted to Meerut medical college and two others to district hospital,Bulandshahr.
Situated in Chanderu village on Bulandshahr-Delhi highway 10 km from the city, the jail was engulfed with flood water last month when heavy rains and water released from Uttarakhand dams wreaked havoc on western UP.The waterlogging remained for days together and has adversely affected the premises, said Maurya, adding it took us two weeks to drain out the water. Even today tough there was no accumulated water inside, there was heavy waterlogging around the premises,he said
DIG jails (Meerut),PK Misra, who is also camping at Bulandshahr jail, said that situation was well under control and all measures were being taken to ascertain best possible medical care to the inmates. He said that around 900 inmates had been examined so far.
