Polio scare as child shows symptoms

LUCKNOW: At a time when India has declared itself polio-free, the scare is back with doctors in Hardoi suspecting that an 18-month-old boy could be suffering with polio.

On Saturday, Uttar Pradesh health department officials and experts of the National Polio Surveillance Project (NPSP) sent samples of the boy's stool for tests after he showed signs of acute flaccid paralysis (AFP), which could be a symptom of polio.

To Sep 13th, India has reported 35,456 cases of AFP in 2014, very similar to 2013. http://www.flutrackers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=218020 Two have been confirmed Vaccine derived Polio. A little under 8,500 have indicated some non-polio enterovirus.

A study from south-western India published in 2013 did not report any EV-68.
