[FONT=&quot] [h=2]Boil Water Advisory Issued For East Bank of New Orleans[/h] The Sewerage & Water Board (S&WB) has issued a precautionary boil water advisory for the entire East Bank of New Orleans due to a further drop in water pressure Thursday morning, Jan. 18. This is an expansion of the advisory issued Wednesday for areas east of the Industrial Canal, including Venetian Isles, Lake Catherine and Irish Bayou. Neither advisory applies to the West Bank.

[h=3]Don't consume tap water[/h]
  • Use bottled or boiled water to drink, cook, brush teeth, and mix baby formula.
  • Wash fruits and vegetables with bottled or boiled water.
  • Don?t use ice from ice trays or ice makers. Make new ice with bottled or boiled water.
  • To be safe, give your pets bottled or boiled water.
[h=3]Be careful bathing[/h]
  • If you?re a healthy adult, you can bathe or shower with tap water. Be careful not to swallow any water.
  • Give babies and young children a sponge bath or use boiled water to bathe.
  • If you have open wounds or a weakened immune system, use boiled water to bathe.
  • Use hand sanitizer after washing hands.
[h=3]Take care cleaning[/h]
  • Wash countertops and tables with boiled water.
  • Use a rinse temperature of 150? F or a sanitize cycle on your dishwasher.
  • Wash dishes by hand as usual. Then soak in mixture of 1 gallon of water and 1 teaspoon of bleach for 1 minute.
  • Do laundry as usual.
[h=3]Boil water safely[/h]
  1. Heat water until large bubbles come from the bottom to the top of the pot.
  2. Let the water boil for at least 1 minute.
  3. Turn off the stove and let the water cool.
  4. Store the water in a clean container with a cover.
  5. Add a pinch of salt and shake to improve the taste.

[TD]JEFFERSON, LA - Today, 1/18/2018, in conjunction with the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, the Jefferson Parish Water Department is issuing a Boil Water Advisory for the entire East Bank of Jefferson Parish as a precautionary measure because of the loss of pressure in the distribution system due to the extremely high number of water line breaks caused by the hard freeze. The pressure will be restored as soon as possible. The entire process of restoration will take at least 2-3 days.

What should residents do?
All residents are urged not to drink the water without boiling or disinfecting it first, or use bottled water. Boiled, disinfected, or bottled water should be used before drinking, ice making, brushing teeth, washing dishes and in food preparation until further notice.

Boil the water for a one full minute in a clean container. The one minute starts after the water has been brought to a rolling boil. The flat taste can be eliminated by shaking the water in a bottle or pouring it from one container to another. Or Disinfect the water by mixing 1/8 teaspoon of unscented, liquid chlorine laundry bleach with one gallon of water and letting it stand for at least 30 minutes prior to consumption. Mix it thoroughly.

People with severely compromised immune systems, infants, and some elderly may be at increased risk and should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers.

This BOIL WATER ADVISORY will remain in effect until rescinded by Jefferson Parish Water Department or the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals. Bacteriological samples must be collected and analyzed from the distribution system to assure the water meets potable water standards.

Please share this information with all other people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses).

Around the metro New Orleans area there were several reports of businesses and, especially high-rise buildings not having water service above the first floor as water pressure drops.

There may be an end in sight for Jefferson Parish's boil water advisory, but New Orleans' outlook remains murky.

?I would like to say sometime Saturday, we should be able to lift our boil order and get back to normal in Jefferson Parish,? Yenni said in an interview with WWL-TV. It was reported earlier in the day that 72 broken water pipes had been fixed on the East Bank.

The New Orleans Sewerage & Water Board reported at least five broken water mains, though their status Thursday evening was not clear.

New Orleans mayor Mitch Landrieu said no estimate on a timeline would be available until some point Friday, although it figures to be extended, as testing can not begin until pressure is normalized.

Water pressure restored at MSY, boil water advisory remains

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -
Water pressure is returning at the airport after nearly a day of asking travelers to use portable toilets.

For much of the day there was no running water at Armstrong International Thursday.

The toilets at the airport are now flushing, but airport officials are still asking travelers to use hand sanitizer to wash their hands instead of washing their hands under the faucet.
