The first cases of the novel COVID-19 variant of concern, B.1.617.2, in Louisiana have been identified at LSU Health Shreveport.
"The work at the Center for Emerging Viral Threats here at LSU Health Shreveport in the past 24 hours identified two specimens that are the B.1.617.2 variant that has recently originated in India,'' LSU Vice Chancellor for Research Dr. Chris Kevil said on Friday. "We found that here in northwest Louisiana and also recently identified in northeast Texas.''
While there were two Louisiana cases identified at LSU Health Shreveport, the Louisiana Department of Health said it is likely that there are additional undetected cases circulating.
