Lofa County Records Massive Drop In Ebola Cases
Date Uploaded: Oct 22, 2014

MONROVIA, October 22 (LINA) ? No new cases of Ebola have been reported in Lofa County over the past three weeks, an executive mansion release has disclosed.

The head of the M?decins Sans Fronti?res (MSF)-run Ebola Treatment Unit (ETU) in Foya, Dr. Serge St. Louis, briefing President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf during a visit to the county, indicated that Lofa County could soon be declared an Ebola- free county if the trend continues.

Foya, a town that shares common borders with both Guinea and Sierra Leone, registered Liberia?s first case of the Ebola virus from neighboring Guinea in February 2014.

This outbreak later killed hundreds in the county and subsequently spread to other parts of the country, including the capital Monrovia.

Dr. Louis warned that although significant gains have been made, President Sirleaf should reconsider security measures at the border area to prevent a recurrence of how the virus was transported from Guinea and later spread throughout the country...

Re: Lofa County Records Massive Drop In Ebola Cases

It would be great if Liberia could sort out it's data collection and presentation a bit better. According to SitRep 155 Lofa had a single case confirmed on Oct 17th.

so the above report is a little misleading.

Many seem to agree that cases have declined, but there are still cases. Moreover, Guinea had previously complained of Liberians travelling to the Macenta area from Lofa where there's been a recent surge in cases. I can't find the link at the moment with the report and it just might be untrue, but it's a head's up.

Regardless, good job on Liberia for having the new cases in Lofa dramatically decline.
