After a recent public meeting of our local government I found out the following about our local Emergency Response Plan:
- 2 of the three elected officials responsible for it did not have access to the plan
- These 2 had never read the plan
- These 2 had never approved the plan or had approved a plan they had never read (their responsibility)
- These two had no idea they were responsible for it?s implementation in the case of an emergency
This all came to light because I asked for a copy of it after the public meeting. One of the two politicians said he did not have a copy of the plan. (I think this was supposed to be justification for not giving me a copy.) Then I asked the three ?What would happen, God forbid, if some thing happened to (the politician in charge of the plan)?? The good news is the other two politicians are now getting copies of the plan to read and know they are responsible for it?s implementation.
If this could happen here it could be happening elsewhere. I can not speak for other areas but in my own area local government meetings are an excellent source of free theater and help to bring the community together.
