>The studies start in about a month, and Benchmark Research in Metairie is the only local site participating in the nation trials. East Jefferson General Hospital internal medicine specialist Dr. Robert Jeanfreau is the principle investigator for a few local studies.

"The swine flu is a big scare right now and the drug companies, the ones that particularly deal with vaccine production, are really trying to gear up to get ready for this threat," said Jeanfreau.

He is looking for about 1,000 people willing to come in about three times to his office. Once will be to get the vaccine, the other visits will be to check your blood to see if your immune system is building up antibodies against the swine flu. Anyone six months and older, who is healthy, could qualify. He especially needs children and the elderly to apply. You will get a free health exam and be paid for your time and travel expenses. <

To see if you qualify for the study call 1-800-369-2875.

You will not qualify if you have: asthma, cancer, diabetes, or heart disease. And you cannot be allergic to eggs
