It started at 8 am central, today Wednesday, 3 15.
The first part was overview by governor and DHHS assistant secty.
One relevant question was asked, "Where's the Manhattan Project for vax plants?"
The answer from DHHS was, "It takes years." "We are doing something." "We are planning to be able to produce 110 MM vax doses over a 6 month time window, when we know the strain." "We don't know the pandemic strain" (and impliedly, they have no way to know it in advance). "Our bottleneck using eggs is the quantity of incubators necessary for the raw material" (thus, the answer is that there is no Manhattan Project effort.)
Answer from DHHS is that we're screwed.
The rep from the DHHS was smooth as a sow's ear. He spoke calmingly; yet the message he delivered was the same as what we all know. He was like the string orchestra which greeted the new arrivals at Auschwitz.
I'm now completely convinced that the US gov't under this Administration will accomplish little to in fact protect the nation via vaccine.
What would otherwise have been moot will now be reality. We are back in the Alice in Wonderland world of inability to act, but lots of gloss in preparation to avoid panic.
