Re: Live Hummingbird Cam - update the eggs are starting to hatch

the eggs are starting to hatch. the eggs are the size of a tic tac. The nest is the size of a golf ball

Re: Live Hummingbird Cam

Thanks for posting that. I love hummingbirds.

I have one that returns each year and claims the feeder. It sits about 5' away and chases off any other one it sees.

After a couple of weeks, I can easily spot it from the others. It gets so fat, it looks like a little helicopter flying around.

Looking forward to seeing these babies :applause:

Re: Live Hummingbird Cam

Other link not working. Found this link. The nest is in a rosebush about 7 feet off the ground. It is about the size of a golf ball and the eggs the size of TicTacs. It's located in CA. Eggs should be hatching any time.

UPDATE: The egg that had a pip ended up being nonviable. A skink scaled the rosebush and attempted to eat the egg. Phoebe, the mother hummingbird, attacked and skink retreated. She then removed the egg. She continues to return to the other egg, yet so far no "activity". The skink returned the following day. It didn't get as close to the nest as before. It appeared that Phoebe chased it off. The chatter is that the lone egg may be nonviable, too.
