The inevitable threat of an influenza pandemic and how the state?s businesses will react is the topic of an upcoming free seminar in Little Rock.
It will be held 8 a.m. to noon October 15 at the ADH Auditorium at 4815 West Markham in Little Rock, and is sponsored by the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences? Fay W. Boozman College of Public Health, Arkansas Department of Health, the Center for Toxicology and Environmental Health, Rose Law Firm, the University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law.

?The Pandemic Influenza Planning Seminar for Medium and Large Businesses? is a joint effort by several state and federal agencies to help Arkansas businesses understand the constant threat of an influenza pandemic. Strategic tips in developing an effective Pandemic Preparedness Business Plan will provide an invaluable framework for Arkansas businesses aiming to ensure the overall well-being and economic welfare of their operations and employees.

9-9:30 a.m. ? Carlos Reynolds, area director for the U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety & Health Administration, presents an overview of the agency?s ?Guidance on Preparing Workplaces for an Influenza Pandemic?
9:30-10:15 a.m. ? Bill Mason, M.D., director of the Emergency Response and Preparedness Branch of the Arkansas Department of Health, presents ?Governmental Response to Pandemics at the Local, State and Federal Levels?
10:30-11:15 a.m. ? Tim Boe, a management labor and employment law expert at the Rose Law Firm of Little Rock, presents ?Regulatory and Legal Aspects of Pandemics and Business Planning?
11:15 a.m.-noon ? Gail Huss, R.N., of the CTEH, presents ?Development of a Pandemic Preparedness Business Plan?
The federal government has developed a National Strategy for Pandemic Influenza and an Implementation Plan for the National Strategy in preparation for the world?s next influenza pandemic.
