Liberia: A Look Inside a Slum Cut Off by the Ebola Outbreak - Video

Re: Liberia: A Look Inside a Slum Cut Off by the Ebola Outbreak - Video

That is an incredibly sobering piece. After seeing the triage unit, I wonder how many people who do not have ebola might be catching it by waiting in the triage area with those who do?

Also, the images of people packed together in the quarantine area show how easily this virus can be passed on.

You're right! I can't believe an organization like CNN would put their people at risk like that. If it continues, some western journalist will end up with ebola. And you can bet that folks like that won't be under observation for 21 days.

Here is another video detailing the inside of West Point after the quarantine. Alarmingly, these reporters are not in any kind of protective gear! :( Someone should tell CNN to suit up their reporters and hopefully they wont fly anywhere!

There seems to be a disconnect here. How can the international community expect to take this outbreak seriously if reporters don't respect how serious Ebola is on camera? Also, how is this a quarantine if people are being let in and out without protective gear?

Yes, you are correct. But journalists see themselves as a breed apart. They believe they have a duty to report the news fearlessly. Some may presume their press pass offers them biological immunity to infectious diseases.

Would a renowned journalist cause an international incident if he or she reported the Ebola outbreak from inside a full Tyvek bio hazard suit?

The world needs to receive news of this growing Ebola outbreak, but certainly the same PPE and quarantine protocols should apply to journalists as well everyone else in a quarantine area.
