Less deaths in county last winter
SEASONAL flu and other illnesses saw an "extra" 301 Lincolnshire people die last winter, new figures reveal.

Excess deaths are the number of "extra" deaths during winter compared to the "normal" death rate for the rest of the year.

As reported in the Echo figures for winter 2008/09 pushed Lincolnshire's winter deaths toll to a ten-year high with 610 people dying in the county.

But new figures released by NHS Lincolnshire reveal that this fell to 301 for winter 2009/10 despite particularly harsh weather conditions in the county.
