The first measles outbreak in Latvia since 2018 has been recorded, according to Ilze Ūdre, a representative of the Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (SPKC).

She noted that the SPKC is conducting an epidemiological investigation of the outbreak and organizing infection control measures.

As of the 17th of March, five measles cases have been registered, including three laboratory-confirmed cases — two among schoolchildren and one adult — as well as two suspected cases in schoolchildren, with laboratory results still pending. All registered cases are epidemiologically linked.​..

Since April 10, two more cases of measles have been identified, bringing the total number of cases to 47, according to data from the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDPC). The disease has been identified in one child and one adult. The highest number of cases is among children and adolescents aged 6 to 15 years. Of all 47 registered cases of measles: one case is in a child under 5 years old, 13 cases are aged 6-10 years, 15 cases are aged 11-15 years, one is aged 16-20 years. Another case is registered in the age group of 26-30 years, two in the group of 31-35 years, two in the group of 36-40 years, three in the group of 41-45 years, and four in the group of 46-50 years. Three cases have been identified in the 51-55 age group, one in the 56-60 age group, and one more infected person is over 60 years old.​..
