LAOS SAYS BIRD FLU UNDER CONTROL

Vientiane -- Laos government reported that bird flu was under control after the two outbreaks detected in the same number of districts near this capital.
The chancery spokesman Yong Chanthalansy reported about a bird flu- source of infection in a farm near Vientiane where over 19 000 birds have been sacrificed and 21 000 eggs destroyed.
The two areas were in quarantine and points of control were established to watch for the birds? transportation, and vaccination of all the birds in the area was ordered.
Chanthalansy denied speculations by the media that Laos exported polluted chickens to Thailand and assured that human cases of the virus were not reported.
Thailand and Laos agreed to cooperate closely in the control and prevention of bird flu after registering outbreaks of the disease in both these countries of Indochina.
