Vientiane (VNA) – Laos has recorded 1,053 dengue fever cases, including one death since the beginning of the year, according to the Lao national health information centre.

Although it is now dry season in the Southeast Asian country, the number of dengue cases has continued to increase. Sekong province reported the highest number of cases with 296, followed by Vientiane and Luang Namtha provinces...

Laos grapples with high dengue infection rates amid rainy season

More than 8,400 people have been infected with dengue during the first seven months of the year, eight of whom have died of the mosquito-borne illness, according to figures issued by Lao health authorities in late July.

Though this year’s infection rate is high, it is a dramatic decrease from the 15,851 reported infections during the same seven-month period in 2023, according to the Centre of Information and Education for Health under Laos’ Ministry of Health. No reasons were given for this year’s lower figure.

The actual number of infections could be higher because not all Laotians seek help from medical centers or hospitals that would record and report their illnesses.​..

The number of dengue cases in Laos has surpassed 20,000, with 11 deaths reported so far this year, according to the Lao Ministry of Health on Friday.

According to a report of the ministry’s Center of Information and Education for Health, the highest number was reported in the capital Vientiane with 5,761 cases.

The dengue fever has caused 11 deaths, including four in Luang Prabang province, three in the capital, two in Sekong province, and one each in Luang Namtha and Vientiane province...
