Eight people with suspected anthrax hospitalized in Osh city



Eight people have been hospitalized in the Osh Interregional Combined Hospital with suspected anthrax (carbuncular form). Press center of the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan reported with reference to the Republican Center for Quarantinable and Especially Dangerous Infections.

The ministry noted that the diagnosis of one patient has been confirmed by laboratory. ?All of them receive appropriate treatment and are under medical supervision. The condition of the patients is satisfactory,? the Ministry of Health said.

Quarantine has been introduced in Toguz-Bulak village, Kara-Suu district of Osh region of Kyrgyzstan, where cases of anthrax infection were registered. Administration of the village informed 24.kg news agency.

Earlier, eight people were hospitalized with suspected anthrax. As of today, nine people are being treated.

According to the officials, Toguz-Bulak will be quarantined until August 25. Residents are prohibited from bringing and taking any kind of livestock out of the village, as well as from slaughtering it.



Epidemiological investigation found out that nine people participated in slaughtering and cutting the carcass of the animal. The meat was distributed among residents of Taldyk, Toguz-Bulak, Kyzyl-Bairak and Besh-Moinok villages. A total of 285 contact persons were identified. They take antibiotics and are under medical supervision.

All cattle in the village have been vaccinated.

Five people were taken to hospital in the village of Kakamakhi, Russia's North Caucasian Republic of Dagestan, with suspected Siberian plague, the republic's Health Ministry said on Monday. "Five suspected anthrax cases were registered in the village of Kakamakhi in a period from October 24 to 26. All the patients have been taken to hospital and placed in an isolated ward," the ministry said, adding that all the five are in a moderately severe condition, having skin symptoms.

... According to the ministry, the patients are likely to have been infected while slaughtering and butchering livestock. An epidemic probe is underway. Fourteen contacts of the infected have been established.
