Both patients are on the path to recovery
Two positive cases of Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD), also known as monkey fever have been reported from Aralagodu Gram Panchayat limits in Sagar taluk in the past week.

Kiran S.K., Field Medical Officer of KFD, told The Hindu that the blood samples of a 40-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man from Aralagodu have tested positive for KFD. Both were admitted to McGann Hospital, a government hospital attached to Shivamogga Institute of Medical Sciences, for treatment and were on the path to recovery. Their health is being closely monitored, he said.

SHIVAMOGGA: A 40-year-old man in Aralagodu in Sagar taluk has been admitted to a hospital f ollowing suspicion that he is infected with the deadly Kyasanur forest disease(KFD). This is the third case of suspected KFD reported from the same in the last 15 days.
Lokaraj was first taken to McGaan District Hospital and later shifted to KMC Hospital in following high fever. His condition is said to be critical. KFD special officer Dr said that the patient?s blood sample has been sent to a Bengaluru lab and the report is awaited.

Monkey Fever has killed two people in Maharashtra in the first two months of 2019 ? a major cause for concern for the state health machinery. The viral infection, a tick-borne haemorrhagic fever, also known as Kyasanur Forest Disease (KDF), is said to have spread from Karnataka where it has claimed over 14 lives since January 1.

In Maharashtra, KFD is limited to two talukas of Sindhudurg district ? Sawantwadi and Dodamarg. Since 2016, when it was first reported in the state, the infection has killed 24 people and infected 465. This year, 26 cases have been reported. State health officials said they are planning to vaccinate over 78,000 people in the affected areas to prevent its spread.

Tribal youth dies of monkey fever in Kozhikode

Six persons from the district are undergoing treatment for monkey fever at Medical College Hospital now.
He had been undergoing treatment at the Medical College Hospital for the last few days. This is the first monkey fever death in the district after 2015, according to health officials.

Kozhikode: One person from Wayanad died due to Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD), popularly known as Monkey fever, at Medical College Hospital here on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Sundaran, 27, a native of Begur tribal settlement near Kattikkulam.

He had been undergoing treatment at the Medical College Hospital for the last few days. This is the first monkey fever death in the district after 2015, according to health officials.

Shivamogga district in Karnataka has been fighting an aggressive battle with the tick-borne Kyasanur Forest Disease, or ?monkey fever,? for the past few months. On Saturday, a 38-year-old woman, Poornima S, succumbed to monkey fever, raising the current death toll of the disease to 12. Prior to this another resident of Shivamogga, 68-year-old Parshwanath Jain had succumbed to the fever on Friday.

Udupi, May 03, 2019: The human lives claimed by the deadly monkey fever or Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD) is renewed further. A person lost his life to the disease within Aralagodu Primary Health Centre in the Taluk on May 1, Wednesday.


Monkey-fever.The deceased man is identified as Kariyappa (50) from Nandodi who breathed his last at KMC hospital in Manipal.

Experts have called for Karnataka to formulate a new strategy in tackling Kyasanur forest disease (KFD) or ‘monkey fever’.

The disease, which is endemic in south Asia, made headlines at the beginning of this year following an outbreak in the Shivamogga district. Between November 2018 and April 2019, 342 KFD infections were reported in the district with twelve deaths.

KFD is caused by the Kyasanur forest disease virus (KFDV), which is spread to humans by tick bites or through contact with an infected animal, such as a monkey. At the time, lapses in protocol on the part of the state health department concerning vaccination were flagged. Vaccination against the KFDV should take place within ten kilometres of any known infected person or infected animal. Reports suggested that this did not occur, leading to the outbreak.

KALPETTA: The Health department on Thursday confirmed a case of Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD) in Wayanad. Also known as monkey fever, the KFD is a viral disease transmitted to humans through a species of ticks usually found on monkeys.

A woman native to Bavali village in Wayanad was admitted to a government hospital here on December 26 with the symptoms of the disease -- high temperature, vomiting, neck pain, eye itching and headache. Samples collected from the patient were sent to the Manipal Centre for Virus Research, where it was confirmed as a case of KFD, informed the district medical officer.
