The National Institute of Public Health of Kosovo has announced that during the period from April 16 to On May 12, 14 cases of measles were confirmed in Kosovo.

In one In a Facebook post, the institute announced that all confirmed cases were unvaccinated with the MMR vaccine (against measles, mumps and rubella) and received hospital treatment, which is said to indicate the serious potential for complications that measles can cause.

According to NIPHK data, the highest number of cases was registered in Ferizaj with five cases, followed by Pristina and Kaçanik with three cases each. Meanwhile, one case was reported in Lipjan, Fushë Kosovë and Gjilan.

Five new cases of measles have been confirmed in Kosovo in the last week alone, while from 16.04.2026 to 01.06.2026, a total of 25 cases have been registered.

"From the total number of cases by municipality, the following have been reported: Ferizaj (6), Pristina (6), Kaçanik (5) and one case each in Deçan, Fushë Kosovë, Gjilan, Lipjan, Obiliq and Shtime" - the National Institute of Public Health has announced.

The National Institute of Public Health (NIPHK) called on parents and guardians to verify the vaccination status of their children and ensure vaccination according to the regular immunization schedule at family medicine centers.

Of the total number of cases by municipality, the following have been reported: Ferizaj (10), Pristina (8), Kaçanik (6), Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje (3), Lipjan (2), Obiliq (2), Vushtrri (2) as well as one case each in Gjilan, Shtime and Deçan.

The National Institute of Public Health recommends that any person with suspected measles symptoms, such as high fever, rash or skin changes, cough, runny nose or conjunctivitis, immediately report to the nearest health institution.

Given the high contagiousness of measles and the risk of its spread in the community, IKSHPF calls on parents and guardians to verify the vaccination status of their children and ensure vaccination according to the regular immunization schedule at family medicine centers.
