FluMist vaccinations delayed next week in Knox Co. Schools

<!--END WNStoryHeader--> KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- The Knox County Health Department has postponed next week's in-school FluMist seasonal vaccinations. Several schools are affected.
It's due to an unforeseen delay in vaccine shipments because they're being given more.
The schools scheduled for the week of September 28 - October 2 will be postponed to a later date.
"We will be able to complete the FluMist clinics scheduled for this current week, which equals about 18,000 vaccinations given in the past two weeks to protect many Knox County children from seasonal influenza," said health department Director Mark Jones in a press release.
"This flu season is unprecedented in many ways, so we adjust our plans as information becomes available," Jones added.
The Tennessee Immunization Program is working to help ensure Knox County receives the balance of FluMist as soon as it becomes available.
There's no indication this will have any impact on expected shipments of H1N1 FluMist in October.
The earliest date for rescheduling the missed schools would be the week of October 12.
Phase 2 of the program, which provides booster doses for children who've never had a season flu vaccine, are scheduled to begin December 1.
Schools postponed for phase 1 will also be delayed for boosters because the immunizations have to be given at least 28 days apart.
