Kozhikode reels under a fever spell

40,000 people have been affected with common fever, rat fever, malaria and jaundice between the period January and May 15 this year. This is the data received from the District Medical Office.
The statistics is based on the cases reported at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital, primary health centres and other government hospitals in the district. The numbers are expected to go higher if the data from private hospitals are included.
However, District Medical Officer P K Mohanan said that the situation is normal and there is no need to panic. ?Ten per cent or below of the total population when affected with various diseases is normal and there is nothing unusual in it. The total number of people affected with illness is forty thousand which is only slightly greater than ten percent of the total population.?
